ABOUT THE DAVID NOBLE RELAYSÂ
The spotlight solely belongs to Tarleton's heptathletes in San Angelo as the Texans will travel a full contingent of athletes south on Saturday for the Baylor Invitational.Â
The midweek trek to west Texas marks Tarleton's 11th consecutive appearance at the David Noble Relays. Â
The Texans utilized the meet in a similar fashion during the 2021 outdoor season. Five multi-event athletes notched 34 combined personal records over the two-day affair in Concho City.Â
Events start at 1:30 p.m. on both days. Thursday features the contesting of the first four events in the heptathlon: the 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200m. Friday begins with the long jump, then slides over to the infield for the javelin and concludes on the track with the 800m.Â
Live results are provided by NXT Timing. Links to live results, meet information and a complete schedule of events and list of athletes competing are available on the Tarleton track and field schedule page on TarletonSports.com.Â
ABOUT THE BAYLOR INVITATIONALÂ
The trip to Baylor bills itself as an early-season litmus test versus quality competition at the base of Lake Waco. A host of regional Division I foes comprise the meet field. Among the confirmed teams participating are future Western Athletic Conference rivals Incarnate Word and UT Arlington, Conference USA members North Texas and Louisiana Tech, Northwestern State and Texas Southern.Â
This will be Tarleton's second trip to Baylor in as many seasons, as the program competed at the Michael Johnson Invitational in 2021.Â
The meet officially gets underway at 3 p.m. on Friday with the hammer throw. The women throw first and the men will follow about 20 minutes after the conclusion of the women's finals.Â
Tarleton is sending 59 athletes – 32 women and 27 men – south on Saturday. Field events start at 10 a.m. with the high jump and javelin, then transition to the sand pits for the long jump and triple jump and end with the pole vault and discus. The women's 4x100m relay kicks off running events at 2:35 p.m. Tarleton will then race in a full lineup of individual events, beginning with the 1,500m and concluding with the 3,000m around 4:35 p.m.Â
Fans can buy tickets to Saturday's portion of the meet at BaylorBears.com. General admission tickets are $10 per person while premium seating is available for $15.Â
COMPETING FOR TARLETONÂ
David Noble RelaysÂ
Kyndal Gladson and Rese Schoonover are each set to complete their first career heptathlons. Â
The duo competed in the pentathlon at the WAC Indoor Championships on Feb. 18-19 in Albuquerque, New Mexico and promptly ascended into Tarleton's all-time indoor top 10 list in the combined event. Gladson totaled 3,027 points to claim the No. 6 spot on the record book while Schoonover finished with 2,660 points to move to ninth in school history.Â
Both athletes are underclassmen and in their first full seasons with the program.Â
Friday at BaylorÂ
Tarleton will be represented by five athletes in the hammer throw. Elena Reagan, Audrey Lillard and Bonnie Clifton comprise the women's entries while Ethan Bratton and Oscar Rodriguez are throwing for the men. All five athletes competed in the event in Tarleton's 2022 outdoor debut on March 18 at the ACU Wes Kittley Invitational.Â
Reagan ranks second in school history behind a personal record of 154' 0." Clifton claimed 14th place at ACU with personal best throw of 125' 5." Lillard slung the implement 101' 11" in her first time competing collegiately in the event in Abilene.Â
Rodriguez owns Tarleton's school record in the hammer throw (174' 8") and earned All-WAC second team honors in the event in 2021. Bratton made the most of his two-day stay in Abilene. He notched a personal record of 130' 5" in the hammer throw and registered Tarleton's best outdoor mark in the shot put in five years (47' 1.75").Â
The quintet will also compete in the discus on Saturday.Â
Saturday at BaylorÂ
JumpsÂ
Tarleton's high jump prowess will be on full display on Saturday morning. Four of Tarleton's six high jumpers entered – Jamariyan Howlett, Kyler Seymore, Rylee Hennig and Gentrye Munden – rank in the top-10 in the WAC. Â
Howlett (6' 7.5") and Hennig (5' 5.75") both possess the No. 2 mark in the WAC in their respective genders and are ranked in the top-100 of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Qualifying List. Munden owns a personal record of 5' 7.25" and is the reigning WAC outdoor champion. Seymore had a breakthrough meet at ACU. The freshman cleared 6' 5.5" and is currently tied for sixth in the WAC. Â
Adding to the excitement on the high jump apron is the season debut of Alan Palmer in the event. Palmer, a senior from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, delivered one of the finest performances Tarleton has seen in a conference championship meet at the 2021 WAC Outdoor Championships. He won the long jump and became the first two-time All-WAC first team athlete in school history a day later when he finished second in the high jump behind a lifetime personal record of 6' 9.5"Â
Howlett will team up with Jaden Hall in the triple jump after the conclusion of the high jump. It will be his outdoor debut in the event. Hall is well on his way to becoming the most decorated men's triple jumper in school history. The sophomore broke Tarleton's indoor school record in January with a leap of 45' 10" and ranks third in outdoor school history on the strength of a lifetime personal record of 47' 10". Tarleton also boasts one of the best women's triple jumpers in the WAC in junior Nakia Dunn. She is a two-time all-conference second team honoree and currently ranks seventh in the conference behind a season personal record of 38' 3.25".Â
Palmer, Hall and Dunn are also set to compete in the long jump as is Turnbull and fellow freshmen Reid Vincent and Kylee Willis and sophomore Reagan Gallagher. Â
ThrowsÂ
Results in the javelin throw likely will have gone final before the action picks up on the track, but the event is one to follow for Tarleton fans alike. Â
Elise Smith and Ben Presley rank seventh and eighth in the WAC and are two weeks removed from career performances in Abilene. Smith slung the spear 137' 6" and finished second overall. Presley uncorked a heave of 163' 2" to register a personal record and ranks 10th in school history.Â
Kora Pennartz, who finished eighth at the 2021 WAC Outdoor Championships, is set to join the tandem as are Jacob Bowers and Aneudy Pimentel.Â
Tarleton has eight athletes entered in the discus. Rodriguez and Reagan are the featured members of the group. Rodriguez is the reigning WAC discus champion and owns a personal record of 174' 6". Reagan nearly earned the distinction of being a school record-holder as well. The fifth-year senior flung the disc 154' 0" in 2021 to move within six feet of breaking Tarleton's school record. Â
Pole VaultÂ
Hutchings trains for 10 events as is the life of the decathlete. The pole vault is one of his strongest, though.Â
He won the Corky Classic in January behind a lifetime personal record of 15' 1 and is fresh off a 14th place finish at ACU. He registered an outdoor personal record of 14' 1.25."Â
The women's competition highlights Tarleton's developing nucleus of vaulters. Allison Robling is tied for eighth on the WAC Outdoor Performance List and ranks second in indoor school history with a lifetime personal record of 11' 1.75." Also vaulting are Keelin Engel and Chloe Smith. Engel occupies the No. 5 spot on Tarleton's all-time indoor top-10 list at 10' 2" while Smith finished ninth at the 2021 WAC Outdoor Championships.Â
RelaysÂ
Tarleton's women's 4x100m contingent of Nyla Barlow, Hanna Dudley, Breonna Campbell and Summer Croxton is the lone relay team competing. The group debuted at the Texas Relays on Friday and posted a time of 47.50 seconds.Â
The Texans are bypassing the 4x400m relay to allow their 400m runners a chance to run the 200m.Â
SprintsÂ
Nyla Barlow, Hanna Dudley and Justin Raines headline Tarleton's entries in the 100m and 200m. The trio is featured in the top-10 of the WAC Outdoor Performance List in at least one event. Barlow and Raines each rank second among their conference in the 200m with times of 24.08 seconds and 21.33 seconds. Dudley is seventh and ninth, respectively, in the 100m (11.91 seconds) and 200m (24.55 seconds).Â
The 200m will be the busiest portion of the meet for Tarleton. The Texans have a total of 16 athletes entered in the event.Â
Six of Tarleton's eight 400m runners will also race in the 200m. The group includes Brandon McKissick, who ranks third in the WAC and 20th in the NCAA South Central Region with a season personal record of 48.21 seconds, and Jordan Anglin, Tarleton's top women's 400m runner. Anglin currently sits in fourth in the WAC and 29th in the South Central Region with a time of 56.78 seconds. Also completing the 200m-400m two-step are Zachary Martinez, Bailey Smotek, Macie Evans and Brenna Lee.Â
Decathlete Isaac Hutchings is set to run the 400m for the first time as well.Â
HurdlesÂ
The Texans have a mix of freshmen and veterans penciled in for both the short and long hurdle races.Â
Sullivan Sanders is Tarleton's top performer in the 110m hurdles with a lifetime personal record of 14.67seconds. He'll race alongside Brady Sisneroz, who specializes in the 400m hurdles and ranks sixth in the WAC (54.89 seconds) in the event.Â
Khloe Turnbull and Konnor Hoerman are each hunting their second consecutive personal record in their respective races after notching lifetime bests at the Texas Relays on Friday. Turnbull clocked in at 14.84 seconds while Hoerman shed three-tenths of a second off his lifetime personal record to trim the time to 15.05 seconds. Karleigh Hill, Tarleton's top women's performer in the 400m hurdles (1:05.71) will join Turnbull and make her season debut in the 100m hurdles.Â
Hill and Sisneroz are doubling up in the 400m hurdles and will be joined by Ashlyn Cash, Joey Ortiz-Martinez and Brett Munoz.Â
Mid-Distance
Saturday could officially anoint Jenna Brazeal as the greatest 800m runner in school history. The junior owns Tarleton's indoor 800m school record and clocked the fastest time in program history (2:12.65) to place fourth at the WAC Indoor Championships in February. Her outdoor personal record (2:15.21) puts her within less than two seconds of breaking Linda Garcia's school record of 2:13.41, which she set in 1992.Â
Kevin Calvani and Angel Gomez are entered in the men's 800m while Dominick Vastlik, Maria Diaz-Fernandez and Sage Lancaster will each look to build on strong performances from ACU in the 1,500m.Â
DistanceÂ
All four athletes racing in the 3,000m are featured on Tarleton's all-time top-10 indoor record book in the event.Â
Kevin Baez leads the quartet. The cross country star ranks second in indoor school history in the event with a lifetime personal record of 8:39.02. He is racing in the event on the outdoor track. for the first time collegiately. Â
Freshman Khristian Vastlik, who owns the 10th-fastest indoor 3,00m time in school history at 8:56.29, will compete alongside Baez. Â
Vianney Sanchez and Aimee Landers-Wilburn, who rank ninth and 10th, respectively, in indoor school history, comprise Tarleton's women's entries. Sanchez boasts a lifetime personal record of 10:32.76. Landers-Wilburn's top time in the event is 11:17.60. Â
