SPRINGVILLE, Utah –
Mathilde Brogens picked up where she left off, leading the Texans in their first tournament of the 2022-23 season after an eighth-place finish in the WAC Championship to end last year.
The Tarleton women's golf team opened its 2022-23 campaign at the Hobble Creek Fall Classic at Hobble Creek Golf Course in Springville, Utah. In the two-day, three-round event, the Texans took 11th place out of 18 teams with an overall score of +73. They were just four shots back of the host Utah Valley team, and eight shots back of eighth place.
Brogens led the way with a tied-14th place individual finish, shooting +12 (72-74-79). Newcomers

There were 110 players at the Hobble Creek Golf Course Monday-Tuesday, a Par 71, 6,092-yard course.
Brogens had the best first round of the Tarleton five, rebounding from an early triple bogey with three straight birdies to shoot +1. She had seven birdies in the tournament overall, tied for 14th most, along with Fernandez.
The new Texan freshman Fernandez had her best round on Tuesday, shooting a 74, despite triple bogeying her first hole, No. 8. She birdied two of her last three holes to save her day.
Fox, a Mississippi State transfer, had the best round overall on the team in Round 2, shooting an even-par 71. During her clean round, she posted 14 pars, two birdies and two bogeys.
Tarleton's +73, 925, team score matches the second lowest score the Texans posted in all of 2021-22. They'll be back in action Sept. 26-27 at the RE/MAX Prime Properties Bearkat Invitational at Bearkat Course in Huntsville, Texas.
