RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Texans started off shooting hot, but a barrage of three-pointers from the Lancers resulted in a 77-48 loss on Saturday at the CBU Events Center.
Tarleton (10-10, 3-4 WAC) outscored California Baptist (12-8, 4-3 WAC) on points off turnovers (11-7) and 2nd chance points (13-8) for the game.
The Texans started off hot, picking up the first bucket of the game courtesy of
Shamir Bogues who scored the first seven points for Tarleton. Over the first three minutes, the Texans built a five-point lead over the Lancers.
CBU responded with three straight buckets from beyond the arc to take a seven-point lead with 10 minutes left in the half. The Texans fought back, shrinking the Lancers' lead to five. CBU put together another barrage of three-pointers, attempting 17 in the first half alone, to extend their lead to 14 before heading to the locker room.
The Lancers returned to the court with a 9-0 run, holding the Texans scoreless for the first four minutes of the second half.
Bogues broke the Tarleton dry spell with a drive to the rim that earned him an and-one on the play. CBU continued to sink shots from beyond the arc, going 7-of-12 (.583) in the second half to extend their lead.
The Texans persisted through, challenging the Lancers offensively, but the CBU lead was too much to erase as Tarleton fell 77-48 on the road.
