Tarleton State Men’s Basketball releases full 2023-24 schedule

    STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton State Men's Basketball head coach Billy Gillispie released the dates and times for the 2023-2024 men's basketball schedule on Friday morning.
 
    The Texan schedule features 31 regular season games with 11 against non-conference opponents. The squad will play in nine different states and will host 14 in Wisdom Gym in Stephenville. Tarleton will play a trio of 2023 NCAA Tournament teams including the Grand Canyon Antelopes, Virginia Cavaliers and 2023 Sweet 16 finalist, the Tennessee Volunteers.
 
    "It's another great schedule and extremely demanding," said Gillispie. "Since we've been Division 1, no one has played a tougher schedule than we have. The games are tough but the players love playing a demanding schedule and the exposure the games have brought to Tarleton has been immeasurable. No one has benefitted more than the Texans. The WAC continues to excel and is becoming one of the best conferences anywhere. It should be a fun and exciting season!"
 
    Tarleton State will open the season with an exhibition contest against Howard Payne at 8 p.m. in Wisdom Gym on Oct. 30 as part of a doubleheader with Texan Women's Basketball who host an exhibition against UNT Dallas at 6 p.m.
 
    The Texans will open the regular season on College Basketball Tip-Off Night in Charlottesville, Virginia. against the Virginia Cavaliers on Nov. 6 with tip-off set for 6 p.m. Tarleton will then head to Florida International for its first game of the Conference USA and WAC Battle on Nov. 9 in Miami, Florida. Just two days later, the Texans host UNT Dallas (Nov.11) in their regular season home opener in Wisdom Gym at 7 p.m.
 
    Tarleton will travel to Peoria, Illinois. to take on the Bradley Braves on Nov. 14 as part of the on-campus games of the SoCal Challenge. The Texans will head to California to begin the week of Thanksgiving at the SoCal Challenge by the beautiful beaches of San Juan Capistrano. The four-team sand division kicks off on Monday with the Texans' matchup against Austin Peay at JSerra Pavilion at noon. The Purple and White will take on either Sacramento State or CSU Bakersfield on Nov. 22 in the first place or third place game of the SoCal Challenge.
 
    For the first time as members of the WAC, Tarleton State will open conference play in November with a Nov. 29 tip in Nacogdoches against Stephen F. Austin. The Texans will open their home slate of WAC play against UTRGV on Dec. 2 at 4 p.m.
 
    After the early conference week, the Texans round out non-conference play with five more contests. Dec. 5, Hardin-Simmons travels to Wisdom Gym followed by Sterling College on Dec. 12. In the second game of the C-USA vs. WAC Battle, the Texans will host Jacksonville State on Dec. 18. Tarleton will travel to Knoxville, Tennessee to take on the Volunteers on Dec. 21 at Thompson-Boling Arena at 5:30 p.m. The Purple and White will close their non-conference slate against Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles, Calif.
 
    Tarleton resumes WAC play hosting UT Arlington on Thursday, Jan. 4. The Texans will enjoy a seven-day break before playing four games in nine days, with three of them away from Stephenville. Tarleton State will open the stretch with a pair of road games at California Baptist (Jan. 11) and Grand Canyon (Jan. 13). Next, the Texans will head back home for a bout against Abilene Christian on Jan. 18 before heading to Edinburg to face-off against UTRGV for the second time this season (Jan. 20). Tarleton State will round out January with a pair of home games against Southern Utah on the 25th and Utah Tech on the 27th.
 
    The Texans will start off February on the 1st at Abilene Christian which will mark the halfway point of conference play for Tarleton State. The squad will then head back to Stephenville for a Saturday square-off against Stephen F. Austin. Tarleton will play three-straight road contests starting with Utah Valley on Feb. 8. On Feb. 10 the Texans will take on Seattle U and then close the trip at UT Arlington (Feb. 15).
 
    Closing out February, Tarleton will host Grand Canyon (Feb. 22) and California Baptist (Feb. 24). On the final day of the month (Feb. 29), the Texans will travel to Utah Valley for just the program's fourth contest on Leap Day.
 
    Tarleton State will close the regular season on the road at Southern Utah (March 2) before the final pair of home games against Utah Valley (March 7) and Seattle U (March 9).
 
    In the newly formatted WAC Tournament, the top eight teams will earn a bid to compete in the four-day event at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, NV. The first round is slated to start on Wednesday, March 13, with the championship game being held on Saturday the 16th.
