Texans wrap up week with Sunday home game against Seattle U

    STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton State closes out its first week of WAC home games with a Sunday matinee at noon against the Seattle U Redhawks at the Tarleton Soccer Complex.

    The Texans dropped their WAC home opener to Utah Valley, 3-0 on Thursday night. The duo of Mikayla Kendall and Emma Barnes combined for 13 saves, the second-most in program history.
 
    Kendall leads the WAC with 94 and averages a league-best 7.00 saves per game. She is also second in save percentage at .798. The Orange, CA native would rank fourth in total saves in the nation and eighth in saves per game, but due to Tarleton in its final year of reclassification Texans are ineligible for the list. Rylee Low's four goals in the last eight contests leads the Texans scoring attack. Tarleton State's leading goal scorer and point total (8). She ranks eighth in the WAC in total goals and in goals per game (.29). Mila Bettinelli ranks in the top 10 in three career statistical categories (goals, points per game, and goals per game) among active players in the WAC. Harr and Low remain as the only Texans to have started in all 31 games in program history.
 
    Sydney Rouillard was one of 23 WAC Athletes among every sport in all 11 institutions to be named a WAC Student-Athlete Emerging Leader on Sept. 28.
 
    Head coach Pete Cuadrado has totaled 178 wins in his 21 seasons of coaching across North Dakota State, Wyoming and Tarleton State. As a unit, Tarleton ranks in the top six in goals (18), goals per game (1.29) and shutouts (4). The Texans also rank second in fewest fouls called per game (7.07) and lead the WAC in saves per game (7.00).
 
    Seattle U opened the week in Abilene Christian on Thursday with a 2-1 win. Kaylee Coatney scored her first goal of the season along with Kait Raffensperger whose goal came via a penalty kick. Earlier this season, Seattle U took on the 24th ranked Washington State Cougars and fell on the road, 2-1.
 
    The Redhawk offensive attack is led by Jourdyn Curran's three goals and Kailee Wilson's seven points. Kassidy Kirgan has made 14 starts and a 1.39 GAA and has compiled three wins and 48 saves.
 
    Julie Woodward leads Redhawks women's soccer program for the 27th season. She is the only head coach in the history of Seattle U women's soccer. Last season, Seattle U took the first game between the two programs on October 21 in Stephenville, 1-0.
 
    Next week, Tarleton State will open a road trip on Thursday night in St. George, Utah against Utah Tech at 8 p.m. at Zion Greater Stadium. The Texans will stay in the Beehive State for a Sunday afternoon match against Southern Utah at 1 p.m. at Thunderbird Soccer Field in Cedar City.
