ABOUT THE MATCHUP
  • This is the seventh all-time meeting. Tarleton is 5-1 against the Lions dating back to 1983, with the last five meetings in Stephenville. These two played last year, with Tarleton winning 81-75.
  • In last year's game, Freddy Hicks had 16 points (5-9 FG, 3-5 3PT), four rebounds, two steals.
  • SAGU just lost Monday in the Sooner Athletic Conference semifinals 80-76 against Langston in Oklahoma City. SAGU is hoping for a 2023 NAIA Men's Basketball National Tournament bid.
  • The Lions can light it up, averaging 82.7 points on 47.1 percent shooting, plus 9.8 3PM per.

QUICK HITS
  • This is Tarleton's final regular season game. With a win, they would have their first winning regular season in the D1 era at 16-15. They already have a new D1 era record for wins at 15.
  • With a win Tuesday, Tarleton would finish 12-2 (.857) at home. That would mark their most home wins since 2017-18 (13) and their best home W% since 2016-17 (.882, 15-2). At home under head coach Billy Gillispie, the Texans are 27-10 (.730).
  • The Texans wrapped up WAC play 9-9. With a win Tuesday, they'd finish 7-6 in non-conference.
  • This game was not on the original schedule, and replaces Tarleton's canceled season finale against New Mexico State, which was supposed to be played this upcoming Friday.
  • If the season ended today, No. 7 Tarleton would match up with No. 10 UTRGV in the opening round of the WAC Tournament. Tarleton is locked at No. 7, but No. 10 could change. That means Tarleton will begin WAC Tournament play on Tuesday, March 7, at 8 p.m. CT.
  • Tarleton just played their first overtime game of the season, just coming up short against UTRGV 99-95. It marked their first OT loss since 2017 (Nov. 11 vs. UC-Colorado Springs, 103-100).
  • The Texans have had 38 FTA in each of their last two games, going a combined 64-for-76 (.842). This is the first time since Feb. 24-March 2, 2018, Tarleton has had consecutive games with 30+ FTA, and the first time since Nov. 18-21, 2015, they've had consecutive games with 35+ FTA. Tarleton is third in the country in FTA per game (25.2), behind Texas A&M (25.5) and UTRGV (25.4).
