Late push not enough as Texans fall at Oral Roberts

TULSA, Okla. – Tarleton scored five unanswered runs in the final three innings, but Oral Roberts managed to hold on for the midweek victory, 6-5, at J.L Johnson Stadium.

Tarleton (6-3) was held hitless for the first five innings by ORU (7-2) starting pitcher Joshua Caravalho (W, 1-1). He struck out four and walked one in 5.2 innings of work. Jaime Perez broke up the no-hitter in the sixth on a single to center field before Caravalho hit Jack Wagner with a pitch, ending his outing.

The Texans were down 6-0 before plating their first run in the seventh to make it 6-1 as Carter Dobrinski led off with a solo home run to left field.

Matt Haley pitched the sixth and seventh innings for Tarleton, holding ORU scoreless allowing just one hit as he kept the Texans in the game.

The eighth inning was big for Tarleton as they brought three runs home, making it a 6-4 ORU lead. Mason Hammonds hit an RBI double to score Jordan Andrade who previously walked. Jack Wagner followed with a two-run blast over the right field wall, his second home run of the season and the Texans held some momentum for the first time all afternoon.
Zane Badmaev pitched the bottom of the eighth and held the Golden Eagles off the board with two strikeouts and a groundout to Hammonds at shortstop.

In the top of the ninth, Andrade hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Kooper Shook, who walked to lead the inning off, and make it a one run game with two outs. The Texans were unable to get the tying run across as ORU's Dalton Patten (S, 2) picked up the save, throwing 1.2 innings allowing a lone hit.

Cris Enriquez (L, 1-1) was hit with the loss as he got the start for the Texans, throwing 2.0 innings and allowing three runs on three hits.

Oral Roberts got the game started with two runs in the bottom half of the first. They used two runs in the first and fifth to pull ahead. Mac McCroskey led with two hits and an RBI and Blaze Brothers' two-run home run in the fifth helped lead the Golden Eagles to the win.

The Texans return to action on Friday when they kick off a three-game home series with Prairie View A&M. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. and all three games will be streamed on ESPN+.
