SUGAR LAND, Texas –
Elle Fox had her best effort when it mattered most, shooting +1 on the final day of the HCU Husky Invitational in Sugar Land, Texas, to place inside the top-20 to lead the Texans.
Fox finished tied-19th at +13 (75-81-73), posting her best round in the final round of a tournament for the fifth time this season and for the fourth straight event.
Three other Texans were within a shot of each other.
Rebeca Fernandez shot +22 (80-74-84) for tied-45th, while
Sofia Rodriguez (82-77-80) and
Mathilde Brogens (79-81-79) each shot +23 for tied-51st.
Alejandra Cambronero rounded out the group at +28 (83-78-83) for tied-63rd.
Tarleton took 12th in the team standings at +77 (316, 310, 315).
Fox had a great start to the final day at the Riverbend Country Club, holing a birdie on her second hole, plus adding another four holes later to go -2 through six. Back-to-back bogeys late turned her -1 into +1, but she still had the tied-sixth best round on Tuesday among the 78-woman field. Her 73 on the day boosted her 17 spots on the individual leaderboard for her third top-20 result of the year.
Fernandez had her best performance in Round 2 with a +2 (74). She birdied her first hole to get started on the right foot, one of three in the round.
Tarleton had their best scores come on Par 3's, where they were sixth in the tournament at +20. Fox (+1) and Brogens (+3) were the main reasons for their success on the short holes. Cambronero finished with the tied-12th most birdies overall with seven.
The Texans have just one regular season tournament remaining before they'll gear up for the WAC Women's Golf Championship. They'll next play at the Oral Roberts Spring Invitational on April 10-11 at The Club at Indian Springs in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
