The Texans will be on the road for the first time in over a month, heading to east Texas for a two-match weekend against Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston Friday and Sunday.
Â
Tarleton just wrapped up their six-match homestand from March 3-19, going 4-2 during the stretch, their last win coming in their conference opener against UTRGV. This past Sunday, the Texans suffered a conference loss, a rarity for the purple and white since joining the WAC. It marked just their second WAC match loss in three seasons, now 11-2 in conference matches at the NCAA Division I level.
Â
On Friday at noon CT, the Texans will meet the Ladyjacks at the Schlief Tennis Complex in Nacogdoches. SFA is 8-7 on the year and 0-1 in WAC play, dropping their first conference match on Sunday at Sam Houston 6-1. The Ladyjacks have lost two straight after winning six in a row, and are 6-3 at home this season. Felicia Back picked up the lone point for SFA on Sunday at the No. 5 position, defeating Vianne Schwab 6-4 7-5.
Â
The Texans beat the Ladyjacks last year in Huntsville 5-2. Tarleton's three returning players this season went a combined 4-1 across singles and doubles in that match.
Celia Vaudiau went 2-0 with a win in doubles at No. 3 and a win in singles at No. 5.
Elsa Boisson won her singles match on Court 4 and had her doubles match unfinished, while
Martha Makantasi cruised in No. 1 doubles 6-1 but lost in singles at No. 3.
Â
On Sunday at 11 a.m. CT, the Texans will meet the Bearkats at the Kelly and Ina May McAdams Tennis Center in Huntsville. Sam Houston is 4-6 this season and 1-0 in WAC play with that win against SFA. They just snapped a two-game slide and are now 3-2 at home. Megan Basson leads the team playing at the top spot, and boasts a 6-3 record. Paula Cerda, Sam Houston's No. 2 player, has the best singles record on the team at 7-3.
Â
Tarleton is led by
Emma Persson, who just won her second WAC Singles Player of the Week honor of the spring. The freshman is 11-2 this season, with all matches played on the top two courts. She's won three straight singles matches, the longest active winning streak on the team.
Â
Five of Tarleton's seven players who have seen a match result hold a .500 or better singles record this season. Behind Persson is
Elsa Boisson at 8-4 and
Clara Sobius at 9-5.
