STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The Tarleton baseball offense continued to stay hot in a 14-4 series clinching, run rule win over Prairie View A&M on Saturday at the Tarleton Baseball Complex.
The Texans (8-3) were led offensively by
Mason Hammonds as he turned in three hits and five RBI. Hammonds now has 19 hits on the season and hit his first home run, a two-run blast in the seventh. The 19 total hits are tied-second out of all NCAA Division 1 players. Hammonds has hit safely in all 10 games he has played.
Jack Wagner also registered a three-hit performance to pair with three RBI. Freshman
Tyson Drake hit the first home run of his career, a two-run home run in the third inning. Drake had two hits, two walks, three RBI and scored four runs.
Cris Enriquez and
Mason Crews each posted two hits.
Tarleton put its mark on the game in the first inning, plating seven runs. They had five hits in the inning and were helped along by three PVAMU (2-9) errors.
Dylan Delvecchio (W, 1-1) earned his first win as a Texan as he pitched 5.0 innings allowing four runs on six hits to pair with eight strikeouts.
Freshman
Reece Elston pitched 2.0 shutout innings in relief, striking out five.
Peyton Hutson pitched the eighth, striking out the side.
The Panthers Zachary Trevino finished with two hits and two RBI. Victor Mendoza (L, 0-1) was given the loss after allowing nine runs (six earned) in 3.0 innings.
The Texans will look to sweep the series on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Tarleton Baseball Complex. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
