STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton did not let its foot off the gas on Sunday, taking down Prairie View A&M 13-0 in seven innings at the Tarleton Baseball Complex to get its second straight series sweep.
The Texans (9-3) outscored the Panthers (2-10) 46-4 in three games this weekend. In the first seven home games played this season, the Texans have outscored their opponents 110-22 and are averaging 15.7 runs a game at the Tarleton Baseball Complex.
Dylan Kurahashi-Choy Foo finished with three hits, four RBI and two runs scored, belting a three-run home run in the first inning to kickstart the Texan offense.
Jaime Perez finished with a career-high six RBI. He hit his first career home run in the bottom of the fourth, a grand slam to extend the Texans lead to 9-0.
Jack Wagner hit his team-leading fourth home run, a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth directly after Perez's grand slam. Wagner, a University of Kansas transfer, is up to a team-high 18 RBI on the year.
Hunter Day (W, 2-0) earned the win, pitching 6.0 innings allowing no runs and striking out eight compared to just one walk.
Zach Poe pitched the seventh inning and sat PVAMU down in order to end the game.
Tarleton plated five runs in the first and fourth innings.
Mason Hammonds, a Bossier Parish CC transfer, led the game off with a triple off the right field wall. He now has 21 hits on the season, leading the Texans.
The Texans will return to action on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. as they host Randall University for a midweek tune-up ahead of the WAC opener on Friday. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
