Texans score late but not enough as Seattle U takes game 2

BELLEVUE, Wash. – Tarleton managed to plate four runs in the eighth inning to cut into a 6-0 Seattle U lead, but the Redhawks held on for a 6-4 game two win.

The Texans (23-17, 7-11 WAC) were held scoreless for the first seven innings of the contest while Seattle U (14-25, 10-10 WAC) got out to an early 5-0 lead by the third inning. Seattle U tied up the important WAC series at a game apiece with Sunday's series finale looming large.

Redhawk starting pitcher Nestor German threw 7.0 shutout innings, allowing just two hits. He struck out eight and walked one.

As soon as German exited the game, the Texan offense got the scoring started. The eighth inning saw them score four runs on four hits to make it 6-4.

Mason Crews got the hitting started with a double down the left field line in the eighth. Mason Hammonds and Trace Morrison each came through with RBI singles to make it 6-2 while Jack Wagner hit an RBI infield groundout to score Hammonds, making it 6-3. Cris Enriquez singled through the right side to score Morrison and make it 6-4.

The top of the ninth saw Alec Williams lead off with a double to left field. He stole third during the next at bat. Despite Williams being on third with no outs the Texans were unable to score a run in the ninth. They loaded the bases with one out but proceeded to strike out and fly out to left field to end the game.

Dylan Delvecchio (L, 2-3) was hit with the loss after allowing four runs in 2.1 innings. Grant Garza, Peyton Hutson, Isiah Campa and Jake Burcham all threw in relief with none throwing over 1.2 innings. Burcham struck out a team-high three in the bottom of the eighth.

Morrison and Enriquez each finished with two hits and an RBI while Crews added two hits.

Tarleton will look to grab the series win on Sunday with a 2 p.m. CT first pitch on WACinternational.tv.
