Texans run out of gas in series finale loss to ACU

ABILENE, Texas – Tarleton baseball lost its series finale game to Abilene Christian by a score of 12-1 in seven innings on Sunday afternoon at Crutcher Scott Field.
 
Tarleton (24-24, 8-17 WAC) mustered just four hits over the course of the game while ACU managed 12 runs on 12 hits.
 
The Texans used six different pitchers with starter Devon Patel (L, 2-3) getting the loss after throwing 0.2 innings allowing two runs on four hits.
 
Freshman Reece Elston had the best day on the mound for Tarleton, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings after he entered in the bottom of the second. Elston tied a career-high with five strikeouts. He allowed just one hit and walked two.
 
ACU jumped out to a quick lead with two runs in the first inning and five in the second, making it 7-1.
 
Tarleton plated its only run of the game in the top of the first as Cris Enriquez hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Mason Hammonds who led the game off with a single to left field.
 
The Texans scored first in all three games of the series.
 
Dylan Kurahashi-Choy Foo totaled half of the Texans hits with two of his own. Hammonds and Jaime Perez added the other two.
 
Tarleton returns to action on Tuesday as the Baylor Bears visit the Tarleton Baseball Complex. The game is set for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch and will be streamed on ESPN+.
