STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Women's soccer dropped a 1-0 decision at Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday afternoon at the Pumphrey Soccer Complex.
The Texans (2-4-2) will play four of its next five matches on the road. The Lions improve to 4-3-1 with the victory.
Emma Barnes made her first collegiate start in goal and recorded two saves.
Rylee Low was credited with two of the Texans' four shots on goal, with both of her shots landing on net.
In the 14
th minute, the Lions took a 1-0 lead with a goal by Brisha Musungu assisted by Iyanah Hicks.
Tarleton State held UAPB scoreless in the final 30 minutes of the second half and headed into halftime trailing, 1-0.
The Texans took control in the second half preventing the Lions from taking a shot and firing four of their own.
With six minutes remaining,
Jaycie Bass fired a shot on goal, but the UAPB goalkeeper got a hand on it as it went out of play drawing a corner kick.
Mila Bettinelli took a shot off the corner but was unable to find the back of the net. The Texans were unable to push one in the back of the net and fell to the Lions, 1-0.
The Lions evened the series after the Texans 6-0 win in Stephenville last season for Tarleton's first home win as a program.
The Texans out-shot the Lions, 7-5, including 4-3 on goal. Tarleton also held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Tarleton State will be in action twice next week. First the Texans will travel to Tulsa, Okla. on Thursday night to take on the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles. Tarleton will close its non-conference schedule on Saturday night against Prairie View A&M at the Tarleton Soccer Complex at 7 p.m.
