STEPHENVILLE, Texas
— Tarleton State Women's Soccer dropped to Lamar, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Tarleton Soccer Complex.
The Cardinals (2-2-1) have won both meetings against the Texans (2-2-2) since Tarleton's 2022 inaugural season.
Mikayla Kendall held the Cardinals scoreless in the first half on seven shots with five saves. She totaled seven saves for the third consecutive match.
After a 0-0 tie at the half, Lamar pushed three goals across in the second half.
Breaking the tie, Cariel Ellis found the back of the goal off a long pass from Isela Ramirez across midfield to net the Cardinals' first goal in the 51
st minute.
The second goal of the game came via a Lamar penalty kick. After a Texan foul in the box, Laura Linares found the bottom right of the net to put the Cardinals ahead, 2-0.
Lamar tacked on its third goal of the game in the 66
th minute. Hollie Massey gave the Cardinals a 3-0 lead from a pass from Rafiatu Alhassan.
The Cardinals finished the game with 14 shots and goalkeeper Nicole Panis earned her third shutout of the season.
Tarleton State will return to action next week with a home match on Friday, September 8, at 7 p.m. against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the Tarleton Soccer Complex. The Texans will then round out their fourth week of play with a Sunday-road contest at Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 1 p.m. at the Pumphrey Soccer Complex.
