Tarleton State Women’s Basketball travels to nationally-ranked No. 4 Texas Wednesday

AUSTIN, Texas – Tarleton State Women's Basketball will play its first nationally-ranked opponent of the season at No. 4 Texas Wednesday at 11 a.m. 

The Texans will play in their third Education Day game at No. 4 Texas on Wednesday and currently are 1-1 in Education Day games this season. Tarleton State leads all NCAA Division I Women's Basketball programs in Education Day games played this season. 

The game will be available to watch on SEC Network+ and fans can listen to Clayton Neville's radio call on Tarleton Sports Network. Neville will have a 30-minute pregame show starting at 10:30 a.m. and a 30-minute postgame show following the game. 

MATCHUP NOTES
  • Tarleton State will play No. 4 nationally-ranked Texas on Wednesday at the Moody Center in Austin. 
  • No. 4 Texas is the highest nationally-ranked team Tarleton State has played in program history.  
  • This will be the first regular season meeting between Texas and Tarleton State since 1976. 
  • The two last faced each other in an exhibition game on Nov. 6, 2016, with Texas winning 93-43 in Austin.
ALL ABOUT EDUCATION 
  • Tarleton State leads the all NCAA Division I Women's Basketball programs in Education Day games played this season. 
  • The Texans have already played two Education Day games this season (11/4 @ UTEP, 11/12 vs. New Orleans). They currently have a record of 1-1 in Education Day games. 
  • Tarleton State will play Education Day games at Texas (11/20) and at California Baptist (1/16) and play one more game at Wisdom Gym against New Mexico State (12/16). 
  • The Texans hosted the first Education Day game at Wisdom Gym in the Bill Brock Era against New Orleans (11/12). The game ended with a 57-48 victory in front of 840 fans, mostly kids from Comanche Elementary School in Stephenville. 
TOUGH TESTS 
  • Three 2024 NCAA Tournament teams highlight Tarleton State Women's Basketball's non-conference schedule in 2024-25.
  • Tarleton State took on its first NCAA Tournament opponent from last season at Arizona on Thursday, November 7. The Texans fell to the Wildcats 62-39 in Tucson. 
  • Tarleton State will take on its second 2024 NCAA Tournament opponent November 20, facing Texas in Austin. Playing in its first season in the SEC, Texas won the Big 12 Conference in 2023-24 en route to an Elite 8 appearance. This will be the first regular season meeting between Tarleton State and Texas in women's basketball since 1976.
  • Tarleton State will take on its third and final opponent from the 2024 NCAA Tournament on December 11, traveling to Nebraska for the second time in the last three years. Nebraska came up just short in overtime in the 2024 Big Ten Championship game against eventual national finalist Iowa, but defeated Texas A&M in the NCAA Tournament before falling to Oregon State.

  • Tarleton State recently knocked down a season-high eight 3-pointers against Northwestern State (11/16) 
  • The Texans have three players who have made at least two 3-pointers in a game this season (Mar'Cyah Willis, Jakoriah Long, Karyn Sanford).
  • Jakoriah Long was a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc against Northwestern State (11/16) and shot 62.5% from 3-point range in Tarleton State's first two home games.
BENCH BOOST
  • The Texans got a lift from their bench Saturday with 40 bench points in the win over Northwestern State, with the bench scoring 55% of Tarleton State's points. 
  • Senior guard Tyler Jackson led Tarleton State's reserves with 11 points off the bench.
  • It was the most bench points by Tarleton State since Feb. 1, 2024 (vs. Abilene Christian). 
  • Tarleton State has a record of 4-2 under head coach Bill Brock when the Texans' bench scores at least 30 points. 
  • Tarleton State had a season-high 73 points in Saturday's win against Northwestern State. The Texans' bench accounted for 55% of Tarleton State's scoring. Tarleton State's starting five accounted for over 60 percent of the scoring in the Texans' first three games of the 2024-25 season.
