Tarleton State Women’s Basketball continues non-conference road trip at Arizona Thursday

TUCSON, Ariz.  – Tarleton State Women's Basketball will play the first of four NCAA Tournament teams from 2024 on Thursday, traveling to Arizona on Thursday at 7 p.m. 

Thursday's game will be available to watch on ESPN+ and fans can listen to Clayton Neville's radio call on Tarleton Sports Network. 

LAST TIME OUT 
  • Tarleton State Women's Basketball trimmed a 12-point fourth quarter deficit into a one possession game, but the Texans came up short in the season opener at UTEP 52-49 at the Don Haskins Center Monday.
  • UTEP won the first meeting all-time between UTEP and Tarleton State in women's basketball on Monday. 
  • Senior forward Alani Fluker scored a career-high 18 points in her Texan debut. Her previous career high was 11 points set Feb. 21, 2024 during her time at San Jose State. 
  • Fluker missed just one shot, going 8-for-9 from the floor. 
  • Three Tarleton State newcomers (Arieona Rosborough, Alani Fluker, Niki Van Wyk) cracked the starting lineup in Monday's season opener. 
  • Tarleton State shot 75 percent from the floor in the third quarter and had 58 percent fourth quarter shooting to trim a double-digit deficit.

  • The Texans clinched their first postseason conference tournament win in the NCAA Division I Era. 
  • Tarleton State defeated in-state rival Abilene Christian 54-41 in the 2024 WAC Tournament for their first Division I conference tournament.  
  • Tarleton State is now NCAA postseason eligible after going through the transition period in Division I. 

EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE
  • The Texans return its top five leading scorers from last season and seven letterwinners from a year ago overall. 
  • Senior guard Jakoriah Long led Tarleton in scoring with 348 points, averaging 11.2 points per game last season. She finished in the top 20 in the WAC in scoring. 
  • Sophomore center Faith Acker was named to the WAC All-Freshman Team in 2023-24. Acker led the team in rebounding average with 5.8 and totaled 157 rebounds. She also led the team in blocks with 31 and had 11 double-digit point games to go with two games with at least 20 points. 
  • Senior forward Elise Turrubiates saw action in 30 games and started 25, averaging 8.6 points per game with 258 points overall. She led the team in rebounding with 168 rebounds, averaging 5.6 boards per game
  • Senior guard Miannah Little saw action in 29 games to go with 12 starts, scoring 212 points (7.3 points per game). She came to Tarleton State after earning NJCAA First Team All-Conference honors at McLennan Community College, playing for current Tarleton State head coach Bill Brock. 
  • Senior guard Tyler Jackson competed in 31 games, cracking the starting five in 30 and scored 213 points (6.9 points per game. She grabbed 108 rebounds and dished out 42 assists and registered six double-digit point games and one game with at least 10 rebounds. 

GOT THE GOLD
  • Junior guard Karyn Sanford helped her home country Norway to the gold medal at the 2024 FIBA Women's European Championship for Small Countries. 
  • She averaged 10.2 points per game and 4.6 rebounds per game to help her country to gold.
  • After transferring from UAlbany, Sanford  competed in 28 games in her first season with the Texans in 2023-24.
