Tarleton Tennis announces 2025 spring schedule

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton Tennis will play 22 matches and host 10 contests at the Tarleton Tennis Facility in its 2025 spring schedule that was revealed Friday.

The two-time WAC Championship finalists under head coach Elianne Douglas-Miron will host schools from six different conferences in Stephenville and play matches against two teams that qualified for the 2024 NCAA Tournament.

Tarleton's season begins at home on January 23 against Conference USA foe New Mexico State, continuing the homestand January 25 with a doubleheader starting at 10 a.m. against Lubbock Christian and Collin Community College. The Texans wrap up January by traveling south to face Big 12 conference member, Houston, on January 31.

The Texans start February with a four-match road trip, starting on the 1st at Prairie View A&M. Following 13 days off from action, Tarleton will travel to San Marcos and San Antonio for road matches at Texas State (Feb. 14), UTSA (Feb. 15) and Incarnate Word (Feb. 16). Tarleton returns home February 21-22 to challenge another Conference USA foe, UTEP (Feb. 21), and New Mexico (Feb. 22) before going to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to take on Oral Roberts (Feb. 28).

March starts with three straight matches at the Tarleton Tennis Facility, beginning with Tyler Junior College March 6. The Texans will host Louisiana Tech (March 9) and Northwestern State (March 15) before traveling to former conference rival SFA (March 17). The Texans will face former Tarleton assistant, Sonia Carlson, in her first year at the helm of McNeese when they take on the Cowgirls March 18 in Louisiana. Tarleton wraps up March with road contests at North Texas (March 29) and UT Arlington (March 30).

The Texans will host defending WAC champions and 2024 NCAA Tournament qualifier Grand Canyon April 4 at Tarleton Tennis Facility. Tarleton then travels to Dallas to take on SMU (April 6), a 2024 NCAA Tournament team that made the Round of 32 last season. The regular season wraps up with the final home match of the season against UT Arlington (April 10) before traveling to in-state rival Abilene Christian (April 12).

Tarleton will compete in the WAC Tournament April 17-19 at the UTA Tennis Center in Arlington, Texas. The WAC is not mandating in-season conference matches in 2025 and seeding will be based on national rankings.

Under Douglas-Miron in four years at the Division I level, Tarleton State has won the WAC Coach of the Year award, the WAC Player of the Year award, the WAC Freshman of the Year award, and 14 All-Conference honors (seven Singles All-WAC First Team, one Doubles All-WAC First Team, five Singles All-WAC Second Team, one Doubles All-WAC Second Team). The Texans have also earned 35 midseason monthly or weekly awards (four Singles Player of the Month, one Doubles Team of the Month, 15 Singles Player of the Week, and 15 Doubles Team of the Week).

Tarleton had a historic 2024 fall campaign, capping off with senior Noelia Lorca winning the inaugural WAC Tennis Invitational singles title en route to qualifying for the ITA Conference Masters Championship. The Texans completed the 2024 ITA Texas Regional Championships with an All-Texan doubles final of the consolation draw, with Lorca and  junior Emma Persson clinching the consolation doubles draw over teammates Ximena Morales and Maria Castano. Persson advanced to the Round of 16 in singles at the ITA Texas Regional Championships. Freshman Duru Kuscu also qualified for the singles main draw in Fort Worth.
