Tarleton Women’s Basketball returns home to face Texas State Wednesday

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton Women's Basketball comes back to Wisdom Gym for a two-game homestand this week starting Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Texas State. 

The game will be a holiday-themed edition, "Wisdom Wonderland", where all early arriving fans receive a free Tarleton ornament. The Texans will also be sponsoring a Toy for Tots drive sponsored by Surepoint Emergency Center. Fans who bring one unwrapped toy will receive one free general admission ticket to Wednesday's game. 

The game will be available to watch on ESPN+ and fans can listen to Clayton Neville's radio call on Tarleton Sports Network. Neville will have a 30-minute pregame show starting at 6:30 p.m. and a 30-minute postgame show will follow each game. 

MATCHUP NOTES
  • This will be the first meeting between Tarleton and Texas State since 1983. 
  • Texas State looks to win its second straight game after a road win at UTRGV. Tarleton looks for its third straight win at Wisdom Gym. 
  • This will be Tarleton's first Sun Belt Conference opponent it faces this season. 
  • Tarleton is in the top 50 in the nation in scoring defense. The Texans are in the top 60 in the nation in offensive rebounding. 
PEAK PERFORMER
  • Tarleton State signed former Mary Hardin-  Baylor star Arieona Rosborough this past season. 
  • In just her second game, Rosborough scored a season-high 21 points at Arizona (11/7), the second 20-point performance against a Power 4 conference opponent in program history. 
  • After her second 20-point outing of the season against Nicholls (11/30), the senior guard was named to the Fleur-De-Lis All-Tournament Team in the 2024 Big Easy Classic. 
  • She earned a plethora of honors at UMHB, including three times being named ASC All-Conference First Team, ASC Player of the Year, and ASC Defensive Player of the Year. 
  • She was twice named to ASC All-Conference Defensive Team, ASC Freshman of the Year, Dave Campbell's Texas Basketball Non-DI All-Texas Defensive Player of the Year, WBCA All-America Honorable Mention, and D3hoops.com First Team All-Region. 
  • She played 80 career games (74 starts) for the Cru, averaging 15.1 points and eclipsing the 1,000-point mark by scoring 1,210 career points. 
DOMINATING DEFENSE
  • The Texans' defense has made life difficult for opposing offenses this season. Holding its opponents to just over 55 points per game, Tarleton is in the top 40 in the nation in scoring defense and is second in the WAC in that category. 
  • Tarleton held Delaware to a season-low 40 points in its Big Easy Classic opener for a 54-40 victory Nov. 29. 
  • Holding HCU (11/26) to just 42 points a few nights earlier, it was the second consecutive game the Texans held their opponent to fewer than 45 points. It was the first time in the Division I Era the Texans held back-to-back opponents to under 45 points. 
  • The outing marked the first time since 2013 Tarleton State had two consecutive wins while holding the opposition to under 45 points.
FANTASTIC FREEBIES
  • Tarleton has made great use of its opportunities from the charity strike this season, hitting over 75% of their free throws as a team. The Texans are in the top 50 in the nation in free throw percentage and are second in that category in the WAC. 
  • The Texans have had three straight games between Nov. 26-30 where they have shot at least 81% from the free throw line. Tarleton went 2-1 during those games and made 39-of-45 free throws for 86.6%. 
  • Tarleton shot 10-of-12 from the free throw line in the third quarter for 83.3% against Nicholls (11/30). They went on to go 17-for-19 from the charity strike, shooting a season-high 89.5%. 
  • This is the first time since Jan. 11-19, 2023 the Texans have had three consecutive games shooting at least 81% from the free throw line. 
  • Tarleton has made 10 consecutive free throws entering Wednesday's game against Texas State.
