Texans remain undefeated following home opener sweep of Cowley, Collin colleges

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The Texans finally got to open the home portion of their schedule, and after a lengthy weather delay in the middle of the doubleheader, Tarleton State emerged with two victories to start the season 4-0.

The Texans opened the day hosting the Cowley College Tigers in what seemed to be a normal Friday matchup. Tarleton State swept Cowley on the doubles side of things before a two hour weather delay suspended play not long into singles action.

Following the delay, the Texans came out to a hard fought 5-2 win over the NJACC Women's Division I runner up, Cowley College.

The Purple and White then immediately turned their attention to Collin College, who the Texans made easy work of winning 7-0.

COWLEY

Doubles

The dynamic duo of Maretha Burger and Martha Makantasi couldn't be stopped once again. The Texans made easy work of Cowley's Yerkezhan Arystanbek and Arina Babenko winning their doubles match 6-1.

Emma Persson and Noelia Lorca were in for a tough battle on court three. The pair came away victorious, but it wouldn't be an easy one as the they took the 7-5 win over Mariana Jimenez and Serena Pereyra. This win clinched the doubles point for the Texans, putting them up 1-0.

Court two for the Purple and White yielded the same result as court three did. Xiemena Morales made her first appearance on the court for the Texans this season, paired with Clara Sobius. They won their match 7-5 over Silvia Fernandez and Akari Tomoyose completing the doubles sweep for the Texans.

Singles

Singles action got underway not long after the doubles sweep, but would ultimately not finish until many hours later.

With most matches completing their first set a weather delay forced the Texans into a roughly two hour delay. The teams got back underway just after 3 p.m. Friday with the Texans clinching two more points from court five and six.

The first Texan to earn their singles point for the match was Lorca. She made easy work and won in straight sets over Zuzanna Witkowska 6-1, 6-3.

Following close behind Lorca was Burger who also won her match in straight sets putting the Texans up 3-0, just one point away from clinching. Burger defeated Mariana Jimenez 6-3, 6-0.
The Purple and White's match clinch point would come from four-year senior, Makantasi. After dropping the first set 3-6 to Arina Babenko, she came back to win 6-1, 6-4 putting the Texans up 4-0 securing a match victory.

The final point for the Texans came from Sobius who faced challenging sets one and two before cruising through set three for the win. She earned the 7-6(5) win over Akari Tomoyose in the first set before falling 6(3)-7. Sobius came out in set three and dominated the set 6-1 securing the fifth point for the Texans.

Court one and two for the Texans would both struggle falling in straight sets. Persson on court one fell 6-3, 6-0 to Serena Pereyra. Elsa Boisson faced the same challenge losing to Yerkezhan Arystanbek 6-2, 6-1.

The final two points for the Purple and White came from Sobius and Persson. Sobius had a much easier go around this time in singles action winning 6-1, 6-2 over Sophia Dalla on court four.
