STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State did what they do best, win. The Texans rolled the Golden Eagles 6-1 on Friday.
The Purple and White haven't been fazed by any opponent thus far, outscoring their opponents this season 29-6. The 5-0 start marks the Texans' best start in at least the last 10 years.
"We played well today," said head coach
Elianne Douglas-Miron. "Our doubles were excellent and the team came out with a lot of energy. I'm very proud of Maretha [Burger] and Noelia [Lorca] today for how well they executed their game plan in singles. We had fun today and look forward to playing a tough Texas State team on Sunday."
Doubles
The Texans got things rolling with a sweep of doubles action.
Emma Persson and Lorca got things started on court three with a 6-1 win over
Annelise Deer and
Zere Iskakova.
Martha Makantasi and Burger continued their dominant role on court one winning their fifth straight match together. The pair took down
Chara Grammatikaki and
Arina Sorokina 6-2 clinching the doubles point.
Elsa Boisson and
Clara Sobius worked together on court two to earn the 6-2 win over
Reagan Miley and Sasha Lebedeva to cap off doubles action for the Texans.
Singles
The Texans kept things rolling in singles action taking five of six matches.
Burger got things started on court six winning in straight sets over Kaede Tada 6-0, 6-0. Lorca was once again right behind Burger on court five winning her match in straight sets as well. She defeated Abby Wise 6-1, 6-2.
Sobius clinched the match for the Texans on court four with her win over Cassie Cervantes. She won her match 6-2, 6-4.
Closing out the day for the Texans were Makantasi and Boisson. Makantasi won in straight sets as well on court three, defeating Miley 6-3, 6-3. Boisson collected the sixth and final point for the Texans on court two with her win over Sorokina. After trading first and second sets 6-4, 2-6, Boisson won the third set tiebreaker 10-7.
Persson fell to Lebedeva 7-6(5) and 6-4 court one.
The Texans will be back in action on Sunday when they welcome the Bobcats of Texas State to town for an 11 a.m. matchup.
