Huidobro finishes in top-15 for 3rd straight tournament to lead Texans at Redhawk Invitational

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – Alvaro Huidobro has been playing the best golf of his two seasons at Tarleton State, and he landed another top performance again Monday-Tuesday at the Seattle U Redhawk Invitational.

This marked the third straight top-15 individual result for the Texan junior, as he finished even-par across 54 holes at 72-70-71 for tied-15th.

The Texans finished 10th as a team at +16 (868, 287-294-287), playing at Chambers Bay in University Place, Washington.

Cristobal Sepulveda was second on the team at +4 (71-74-72) for tied-35th, Max Bengtsson was a stroke behind him at +5 (72-75-71) for tied-42nd, Carson Gallaher turned in at +9 (72-77-73) for tied-60th, and Bladen Samaniego rounded out the group at +11 (75-75-74) for tied-70th.

"It wasn't our best performance out there this week," head coach Chance Cain said. "Chambers Bay is a very fun course to play overall but just had too many costly mistakes to be in the spot where we needed. If you missed your spots you have to hit into greens or get in the native area off the tee, you will find yourself in some odd situations. Normally you can just make your bogey and move on but we compounded those mistakes a few times to make doubles which we can't afford. Alvaro did the best with his course management this week and his result mirrors that. He's finally starting to understand how to play the game properly and has performed consistently for us. We have just over a week off to start attacking some of these areas before we tee it up at Maridoe."

As a group, Tarleton was tied-third in scoring on Par 3's at +8, and the Texans had the third most pars in the 19-team field with 166. They also had the tied-fourth most eagles with a pair.

Huidobro holed the tied-ninth most pars with 36. He had the best round across the group with his second round on Monday, going -1, a round with 17 error-free holes. He had 15 pars, two birdies and one bogey.

Oregon State won this tournament at -25 (827), with the next closest team 19 strokes back. The Beavers' Jackson Lee was the medalist at -11 (65-68-69).

After playing in events in back-to-back weeks, Tarleton State will get nearly two weeks off of competition before they play in their final regular season tournament of 2023-24. They'll be at the North Texas Intercollegiate at Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton, Texas, on April 15-16.
