LAREDO, Texas – Tarleton State Men's Golf will compete in the longest-running NCAA Division I Collegiate Golf tournament in the United States, teeing off the Border Olympics on Monday at the Laredo Country Club.

The Texans are coming off a ninth place finish at the Bentwater Intercollegiate in their first tournament of the spring. Tarleton State Men's Golf won its first Division I team title just a few months ago at the FAU Invitational.

Freshman Maximilian Bjornstrom led the Texans' player leaderboard with his second straight top 20 finish, finishing tied for 15th at the Bentwater Intercollegiate. The freshman collected WAC Golfer of the Week honors for his efforts. The Höllviken, Sweden, native shot his first eagle of the spring in just his second hole of the tournament. He shot a 3-under-par 68 in the first round, his third consecutive round with at least 3-under-par, to go with a career-low 54-hole score of 216.

Sophomore Juan Ballester recorded his top finish of the season, tying for 22nd with a 54-hole score of 218. Ballester shot a 2-under-par 69 in the first round, marking a new season-low 18-hole score. Freshman Alvaro Pastor along with sophomores Luis Buech and Kellen Young round out the lineup for the Texans this week.

Other teams in the Border Olympics include Houston, Illinois State, Houston Christian, UTRGV, Louisiana, New Mexico State, Troy, Wichita State, Sam Houston, Lamar, North Texas, Wright State. Host school Houston comes in ranked No. 50 in the nation. The Texans will also go up against a pair of top 100 ranked golfers in Louisiana's Malan Potgieter (No. 61) and Houston's Hudson Weibel (No. 76).

Starting in 1952, the University Golf Tournament at the Border Olympics is the longest-running NCAA Division I Collegiate Golf tournament in the United States. The tournament hosts some of the top teams in the country every year, with past champions including Tom Kite and Ben Crenshaw.
