Bjornstrom’s top 15 finish highlights Tarleton State Men’s Golf’s outing at Bentwater Intercollegiate

MONTGOMERY, Texas – Tarleton State Men's Golf freshman Maximilian Bjornstrom collected his second collegiate top 15 finish, tying for 15th at the Bentwater Intercollegiate at the Miller Golf Course at Bentwater.

Bjornstrom shot a 3-under-par 68 in the first round and finished the final round with an even par 71, bringing his 54-hole score total to 216. His 54-hole mark beat his previous career-low by three strokes.

The Texans combined for 36 birdies throughout the two-day tournament and three eagles. Bjornstrom shot the first eagle in just his second hole of the tournament while sophomore Luis Buech also picked up an eagle in the first round. Buech responded with another eagle on the No. 1 hole in the second round en route to an even par 18-hole finish.

Sophomore Juan Ballester recorded his top finish of the season, tying for 22nd with a 54-hole score of 218. Ballester shot a 2-under-par 69 in the first round, marking a new season-low 18-hole score.

Buech along with sophomores Kellen Young and Drew Ironside rounded out the scoring for the Texans. Buech shot a 223 54-hole score to finish tied for 37th while Young had a 234 54-hole score to tie for 70th. Ironside shot a 237 54-hole score to tie for 74th.

The Texans finished ninth as a team with a 54-hole score of 888. VCU and host institution, Sam Houston, were co-champions of the event after compiling an 857 54-hole score. VCU's Tanner Cadieux won the individual title with a 7-under-par performance.

Tarleton State will compete in the longest-running NCAA Division I Collegiate Golf tournament in the United States next week. The Texans will appear in the Border Olympics starting Monday, February 16 at the Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas.
