Tarleton State Tennis travels to Abilene for Wildcat Invite this weekend

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Tennis continues its fall campaign by making the short trip to Abilene for the Wildcat Invite Friday through Sunday.

Tarleton State's student-athletes have combined for 32 wins this fall in both singles and doubles. This will be the Texans' third and final event before going to the ITA Texas Regional Championships in Fort Worth Oct. 10.

In addition to fellow WAC opponents Abilene Christian and UT Arlington, the Texans will also go up against SMU, Texas Tech, UTSA, Texas State, New Mexico State and UTEP.

Junior Adeliya Mukhutdinova shined in the Texans' last road trip, winning all three of her singles matches at the Mountaineer Hidden Duals in Boone, N.C. Mukhutdinova defeated singles opponents from Mercer, Queens and App State in Tarleton State's last fall event.

Junior Ximena Morales is off to a 4-1 start this fall, going undefeated in singles in the Texas State Invite. The Guatemalan won her fourth consecutive singles match in the fall season with a victory over Mercer's Lea Kozierowski 6-1, 6-2 in the Mountaineer Hidden Duals.

Winning three out of her first four singles matches this fall, junior Clara Sobius is also off to a strong start for the Texans. The Canadian won both her singles matches in the Texas State Invite against opponents from Stephen F. Austin and Texas State, also coming up with a singles win in the Mountaineer Hidden Duals. Picking up right where she left off at the end of the 2024 spring season, Sobius was one of two Texans to be named to the WAC All-Tournament Team last year.

SMU is coming off an American Athletic Conference championship en route to an NCAA Tournament appearance last season. Texas Tech finished as Big 12 finalists a year ago and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Tarleton State will get an early glimpse of WAC opponents Abilene Christian and UT Arlington. The Texans defeated ACU in a tightly-contested regular season finale last year 4-3, securing the No. 2 seed in the WAC Tournament. Tarleton State came out victorious in the WAC Tournament semifinals against UT Arlington and advanced to its second consecutive championship match appearance.

Under head coach Elianne Douglas-Miron in five years at the Division I level, Tarleton State has won the WAC Coach of the Year award, the WAC Player of the Year award, the WAC Freshman of the Year award, and 14 All-Conference honors (seven Singles All-WAC First Team, one Doubles All-WAC First Team, five Singles All-WAC Second Team, one Doubles All-WAC Second Team). The Texans have also earned 33 midseason monthly or weekly awards (two Singles Player of the Month, one Doubles Team of the Month, 15 Singles Player of the Week, and 15 Doubles Team of the Week).
