Tarleton State Tennis combines for 31-4 record at UIW Fall Tournament

SAN ANTONIO – Tarleton State Tennis took its winning machine on the road, capping off the UIW Fall Tournament with a 31-4 combined record in singles and doubles.

The Texans won all but three singles matches in the event at the Mabry Tennis Center and only dropped one doubles match the entire weekend. Tarleton State also combined for seven bagels (6-0 sets) this past weekend.

Seniors Clara Sobius, Ximena Morales and Adeliya Mukhutdinova along with freshman Aya Ishii went undefeated in singles. Sobius and Ishii also went unbeaten in doubles while Morales also won all three of her doubles matches with sophomore Duru Kuscu.

"We had a great weekend of competition with the ladies," assistant coach Abigail Wild said. "They showed how tough we can be both as individuals and as a team. We represented Tarleton State's high standards and look to carry that in the spring season."

Sobius won her first two matches in straight sets, capping off her second match with a 6-0 second set bagel. The senior Canadian dominated the first set before dropping the second set in her final match of the event, coming out on top thanks to a 10-6 win in the tiebreak.

Morales dominated action in San Antonio, not losing a single set and only dropping a combined five games en route to three singles wins. The senior from Guatemala had two bagels and only lost a combined three games in her final two matches of the tournament.

Mukhutdinova did not lose a set en route to three singles wins in San Antonio. The Boca Raton, Florida, native posted a 6-0 bagel in the first set of her second match and cruised to victory in all three contests.

Ishii collected three bagels in her singles matches and did not lose a set in her three victories. The first Japanese player in Tarleton State's Division I era posted a double bagel in her second match of the weekend, defeating UIW's McKenzy Byfield 6-0, 6-0.

Morales joined forces with Kuscu to create a dominating duo, collecting two bagels in three of their doubles wins. Sobius/Ishii continued their dominance in doubles, winning all three in decisive fashion.

Ishii and sophomore Maria Castano will travel to San Diego for the ITA Conference Masters starting Thursday.
