No. 10 nationally ranked TCU defeats Tarleton State Women’s Basketball

FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 10 nationally ranked TCU Horned Frogs defeated Tarleton State Women's Basketball 80-32 on Thursday night at Schollmaier Arena.

TCU shot 44.4% from the floor while holding the Texans to nine baskets.

Freshman center Elodie Lutbert led the Texans with seven points and six rebounds. Junior forward/center Jailynn Brill and freshman guard Alexis Rynders recorded their first Texan baskets while sophomore guard Mar'Cyah Willis tallied a career-high three steals.

TCU's length and size bothered Tarleton State early, with the Horned Frogs forcing the Texans to miss their first 12 shots. The Horned Frogs opened the game on a 16-5 run to take the lead in the first quarter.

Senior guard/forward Kyriana Jones helped the Texans end the scoring drought, getting the offensive rebound and finding junior forward Allie Myers for the bucket. Lutbert and junior forward Tessa Engelman helped the Texans bounce back in the second quarter, combining for 10 of the Texans' 13 points in the period. TCU ended the first half with 43% shooting to take a 34-18 lead into the locker room.

An offensive rebound from Lutbert led to a 3-pointer from senior guard Gia Adams to start the third quarter. TCU responded after Brill's first Texan bucket, going on a quick 8-0 scoring run to stretch the lead. The Texans were unable to make a basket in the final six minutes of the third quarter, with TCU's 60% giving the Horned Frogs a 60-26 advantage heading into the final period.

The Horned Frogs finished the game on a 20-6 scoring run to give them their fifth win of the season.

Tarleton State's road trip continues next week in San Marcos, Texas, taking on Texas State at 7 p.m. at Strahan Arena at the University Events Center.
