Tarleton State Women’s Basketball continues road trip at Texas State Tuesday

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Tarleton State Women's Basketball travels to Texas State to face the Bobcats in a Tuesday night matchup at the Strahan Arena at the University Events Center.

Tarleton State will face Texas State for the third time in program history on Tuesday. The Texans are seeking their first win over the Bobcats in program history.

The Texans are looking to get back to their winning ways after losing their last three games. Texas State is coming off its first win of the season over Texas A&M Corpus Christi. The Bobcats won the previous matchup last year 71-59 in Stephenville.

Fans can watch Sunday's game on ESPN+ and can listen to Clayton Neville's radio call on Tarleton Sports Network.

STAYING IN THE LONE STAR STATE
  • Tarleton State will only leave the state of Texas one time during the non-conference portion of the schedule (Dec. 2 @ Mississippi Valley State).
  • In addition to already playing at Texas A&M and #10 TCU, the Texans will travel to San Marcos (Texas State) and Abilene for a multi-team event.
  • With its only non-Texas game at Mississippi Valley State, it is the fewest out of state non-conference games Tarleton State has played in the Division I era.
  • It is the first time since the 2019-20 season the Texans traveled only one time out of Texas for a non-conference game (at Pittsburgh State/Pittsburgh, Kansas).
QUEENS OF THE BLOCK
  • Tarleton State will have a pair of shot blockers in its frontcourt in Tessa Engelman and Elodie Lutbert
  • Engelman has five games in college basketball with 3+ blocks, including two this season. Her most recent game with 3+ blocks was against McNeese (11/16, 3).
  • Engelman currently leads the team in blocks with nine. She is among the top 75 players in Division I in blocked shots this season.
  • Engelman spent her first two seasons as a defensive force for Mount St. Mary's, tallying 30 blocks as a sophomore in 2024-25.
  • Engelman's five blocks on Feb. 6, 2025 at Iona were the most by a Mountaineer player in a single game since Nov. 2019.
  • Lutbert recorded three blocked shots in Tarleton State's exhibition against #25 K-State, matching her season-high with three against McNeese (11/16).
PEAK PERFORMER
  • Tarleton State signed former All-WAC First Team player Gia Adams this past season. Adams currently leads the Texans in scoring and assists.
  • She scored 12 points in her Texan debut against Schreiner (11/3).
  • Adams, the 2022 Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year, has averaged 13.8 points per game over her college career. She was named to the 2023-24 All-WAC First Team at UT Arlington before transferring to North Texas. The Cypress, Texas, native was the Texans' first transfer to sign with the Texans.
  • Averaging 14.5 points per game in her junior season at UT Arlington, Adams led the Lady Mavs in scoring and was the third-leading scorer in the WAC during the 2023-24 season. The Dave Campbell's Honorable Mention All-Texas guard won four straight WAC Newcomer of the Week honors and registered six 20-point games in a UTA uniform. She dropped a season-high 30 points at CBU, the eventual 2024 WAC Champions.
  • Prior to joining UTA, Adams spent her first two seasons at Tennessee State. Adams had one of the best seasons by a Tennessee State freshman in the program's history, averaging 12.9 points per game en route to winning the OVC Freshman of the Year award. Dropping a career-high 33 points against SIUE on Feb. 17, 2022, Adams became just the third TSU freshman to score at least 30 points and became the first player in the program to accomplish that feat since 2012.
