PALM DESERT, Calif. -- Tarleton State Men's Golf is preparing for its second competition of the spring 2025 season with the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate February 24-26 at the Classic Club.
Tarleton State will compete in the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate for the third straight season. The Texans finished 13th as a team, and the tournament was highlighted by a 4-under-par performance in round two by
Bladen Samaniego in last year's event.
Wyoming will host the tournament, which will include 15 teams this year. Cal State Fullerton won last year's event after shooting 16-under-par. Tegan Andrews of Cal State Fullerton won the individual title with a score of 10-under-par.
Tarleton State's last competition at the Bentwater Intercollegiate saw a 10
th place finish with a 54-hole score of 888. Senior
Alvaro Huidobro led the Texans with an even par to finish seventh overall.
Huidobro, who collected his fourth career top 10 finish in Tarleton State's first spring event of 2025, is the third Texan in the Division I Era to have at least four top 10 finishes. The Spaniard's seventh overall placement marks the second consecutive year the Texans have had a golfer finish in the top 10 at the Bentwater Intercollegiate.
Fellow senior
Carson Gallaher collected his second top 20 finish of the season, tying for 19th on the player leaderboard at the Bentwater Intercollegiate. This is Gallaher's second consecutive tournament where he finished in the top 20. He tied for 20th in the Texans' last event at the Monterrey Collegiate Classic last October.
Sophomore
Juan Ballester compiled a 227 54-hole score that tied him for 59th. Freshmen
Kellen Young and
Drew Ironside rounded out the Texans' lineup, with Young shooting a 230 54-hole score for 66th. Ironside had a 239 54-hole score and finished 76th in his third collegiate event.
Fellow WAC teams California Baptist and Utah Tech will also be competing in Palm Desert this week with the Texans. WAC teams California Baptist and Utah Tech. The Texans will compete against Utah Tech for the second time this season, last meeting the Trail Blazers at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational last September. Tarleton State will face CBU for the first time this season.
