STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Track and Field is set to return to the 97
th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays held at the Mike A. Myers Stadium and Soccer Field spanning from Wednesday to Saturday this week in Austin, Texas.
The Texans will send over 20 athletes to the meet to compete in the national field. Schools from across the country will send their top athletes to the event with over 40 D1 programs expected to have multiple entries. The Heptathlon will kick off this year's event with
Malak Rashwan the lone Texan competing on the first day. Thursday will feature the distance runners with the Texans set to compete in the 1500, 3K Steeplechase and 10K. Friday will feature athletes in the high jump, triple jump and long jump for Tarleton State. Saturday will conclude with the track athletes in the 110 Hurdles and the 100-meter dash.

Last year at the Texas Relays,
Morgan Lamberson earned the Texans first medal in the highly-competitive field. Lamberson earned third place in the women's 3000-meter steeplechase in the second fastest time in program history (10:49.34). In total, the Texans placed in the top 20 in 15 events.
Last weekend, the Texans boasted four event champions at the Clyde Hart Classic.
Kaitlyn Gale took home the crown in the 3000-meter steeplechase. She posted the second-best time in the WAC and ranks 29
th in the nation crossing in 11:04.30.
Jacob Thomas won the men's pole vault clearing 5.0 meters, just 0.1 meters shy of tying the school record. Thomas posted the third best height in the conference and the 44
th best in the nation.
Mason Hill and
Braylon Hoffman also won their events. Hill won the shot put with a 16.48-meter toss and Hoffman was victorious in the 400 hurdles crossing in 54.44 seconds.
After the first week, nine Texans rank in the top four of the WAC in their event.
Tayler Wessely leads the WAC in the hammer with a 48.25-meter toss and ranks fourth in the shot put in 12.94 meters. Her hammer throw best ranks third in program history.
Ashonti Idlebird is second in the triple jump after an 11.96-meter performance last weekend at Baylor.
Sage Barmettler cleared the second highest mark (3.70 meters) in the conference at the Clyde Hart Classic.
First year head coach Bobby Carter embarks on his first outdoor season with the Texans. Carter helped guide the Texans to their highest men's and women's finishes at the WAC Indoor Championships. The women scored over 100 points more than last year and earned a second-place finish. Four individuals on the women's side earned a WAC event championship. The men posted a fourth-place finish, their best in program history. Two individuals won event titles, including
Gabriele Tosti winning back-to-back indoor triple jump titles. He also sent the first four student-athletes in program history to the NCAA Indoor Championships. All four earned All-American honors with two earning First Team All-American.
Tarleton State will be back in action next week in driving distance from Stephenville. The Texans will compete at the Bill Schmidt Invite hosted by North Texas in Denton. The action will be two days, starting on Friday and ending on Saturday.
