Texan Soccer drops to Houston Christian in home opener

STEPHENVILLE, Texas - Tarleton State Women's Soccer fell 3-2 to Houston Christian in their home opener at the Tarleton State Soccer Complex on Sunday afternoon.

The Huskies earned their first victory of the season to improve to 1-1-0. The Texans (1-1-0) started off strong with two goals in the first 14 minutes but were unable to keep the momentum going in the second half.

Just 85 seconds into the game, senior forward Stevie Reynolds scored the first goal of the match with an assist by Sam Liaty. Surrounded by several defenders, Liaty passed the ball to Reynolds who then fired a shot from the top of the box.

In the 13th minute of the game, Reynolds scored the second goal for the Texans, this time assisted by Avery Harr and Isa Bergeron-Prejean. Bergeron-Prejean passed the ball up left field to Harr who dribbled into the left of the box before passing to Reynolds, sending it into the net.

In the 14th minute, the Huskies put themselves on the board with a goal by Isabella Dillow. From the top right corner of the box, Olivia Rossman passed the ball to Danika Etter, who quickly fed it to Dillow. Dillow headed the ball just past Mikayla Kendall, making the score 2-1.

46 seconds later, Madison Stormberg scored the second goal for HCU. Stormberg dribbled past the Texan bench and passed the ball to Rossman, who passed the ball back to Stormberg. Stormberg fired it from the top left corner over the hands of Kendall, tying the score up 2-2.

In the first half, the Huskies outshot the Texans, 9-5. Kendall recorded four saves.

The Huskies secured their win in the 46th minute of the match with an unassisted goal by Haydan Erck on a corner kick.
