Pastor’s 7-under-par, top 15 finish highlights Tarleton State Men’s Golf’s outing in Colorado

ERIE, Colo. – Tarleton State Men's Golf redshirt freshman Alvaro Pastor shot 7-under-par to tie for 14th place and lead the Texans at the Mark Simpson Invitational at the Colorado National Golf Club that wrapped up Tuesday. 

Pastor capped off the final round with a 5-under-par 67, collecting his first eagle of the season on the No. 7 hole Tuesday. The Spaniard had his first top 20 finish as a Texan and recorded a career-low 54-hole score of 209. He finished his time in Colorado with 12 birdies, moving up 24 places on the leaderboard in the tournament's final day. 

Sophomore Kellen Young matched his career-low 18-hole score with a 4-under-par 68 in the first round of the Fowler Individual event, finishing tied for fourth in the event at 5-under-par. His first collegiate 4-under-par 68 came in the first round of last year's Mark Simpson Invitational. 

Freshman Maximilian Bjornstrom recorded his best round at the collegiate level in Monday's first round, shooting a 4-under-par 68. His 18-hole score matched the lowest score for a round by a Tarleton State freshman in the Division I era. He followed up with a 1-under-par 71 in the second round and had a final score of 2-under-par, completing the tournament tied for 44th. 

Sophomore Luis Buech had a 2-under-par third round and finished at 1-under-par total in the event, compiling a 54-hole score of 215 to tie for 52nd. Sophomore Drew Ironside tied for 67th with a 219 54-hole score while junior Juan Ballester finished in 83rd with a 54-hole score of 225. Freshman Nicholas Papacharalambous had a 230 54-hole score in his Texan debut to tie for 35th in the Fowler Individual Event. 

The Texans compiled a season-low 9-under-par as a team for an 855 54-hole score, finishing in 11th. Arkansas State won the team title with an 822 54-hole score, edging host institution, Colorado, by one stroke. 

Tarleton State is back in action next month, traveling to the Oregon State Invitational starting Oct. 14.
