Tarleton State Football rises to No. 3 in Stats Perform, AFCA Top 25 Poll

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Football continues to climb in the national rankings, moving up to No. 3 in the Stats Perform and AFCA Coaches Top 25 poll that was announced Monday.

The No. 3 spot in both polls marks the highest national ranking for the Texans in the Division I era.

Tarleton State jumped ahead of Montana State and South Dakota and are only behind North Dakota State and South Dakota State in the national rankings. The United Athletic Conference also had two additional teams in both top 25 polls this week: Abilene Christian and Austin Peay. West Georgia is ranked No. 25 in the Stats Perform Top 25 Poll and receiving votes in the AFCA Coaches Poll

The Texans became the first FCS team to start 2025 3-0 following its 59-3 win over Mississippi Valley State on Saturday. Tarleton State is just one of three teams in all of college football to have a 3-0 record (Iowa State, UNLV). It is the first time Tarleton State has started 3-0 in a season in the Division I era, last doing so in 2019.

Senior quarterback Victor Gabalis completed 20 of 27 passes for 295 yards, throwing five touchdowns without an interception while other offensive standouts included wide receivers Trevon West (6 receptions, 135 yards, 1 TD) and Bryce Parker (2 TDs). The Texans' defense recorded five takeaways and a defensive touchdown on Saturday night, only allowing 10 points per game the opposition in 2025.

After its 42-0 shutout victory at Portland State on national television in Week 0, the Texans earned one of its best wins in program history in Week 1. The Texans defeated defending American champions, Army, in West Point Week 1 in double overtime 30-27. It was Tarleton State's second-ever win over an FBS opponent.

Tarleton State starts United Athletic Conference play next week, traveling to Central Arkansas on Sept. 13 for a 6 p.m. showdown.
