Victoria Cameron and
Malak Rashwan each broke the school record twice, with Cameron in the 60 meters and Rashwan in the 60 meter hurdles.
"I am extremely excited for the start of this season," said head coach Bobby Carter. "This team has put in relentless work this off season and now it's time to put it all together and execute! This team is focused and we're on a mission to do great things this year."
In the Texans first meet of the season, four Texans earned top three finishes at the OU Winter Field Fest, and the men's indoor high jump school record was the first to fall.
Davi Torres knocked off the high jump record by a hundredth of a meter with a 2.13-meter clearance. He surpassed the previous school record set last indoor season by
Joren McKeever. Torres earned a third place finish overall in the event.
Lokesh Sathyanathan was the Texans highest finisher in Oklahoma in December finishing second in the long jump.
Sir Jonathan Sims was right behind him placing third, setting up another battle all season long between the two jumpers that were both All-Americans outdoor a season ago. On the women's side,
Sofia DeGroot placed third in the long jump. She set a new personal best and became one of four Texan women in program history to have jumped at least six meters. Her leap of 6.04 meters is the third best in school history.
Last season, the Texans sent four to the NCAA Indoor National Championships. The top 16 athletes with the best single mark in their event earn a bid the championships held in the middle of March. This year, it will be at the University of Arkansas on March 13-14.
Prestina Ochonogor and
Gabriele Tosti each earned First Team All-American status in the long jump at the 2025 NCAA Indoor Championships in Virginia Beach, Va.
Lokesh Sathyanathan and
Victoria Cameron each earned Second Team All-American honors. The quartet was the first four Texans to earn a spot in the Division I Indoor Championships in program history in their first year eligible. The Texans claimed a top 50 team performance on the men's side and ranked in the top 55 on the women's side.
Tarleton State will be back in action next weekend once again at Texas Tech for the Jarvis Scott Invitational as well as in Texas A&M for the Ted Nelson Invitational.
