Tarleton State Women’s Golf’s Filippa Mortensen named UAC Women’s Golfer of the Week

Mortensen earns the honor for the second time this season

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — For the second time this season, Tarleton State freshman Filippa Mortensen was named the UAC Golfer of the Week, the conference office announced on Thursday afternoon.

Mortensen posted her first top 10 finish of the season with a seventh place performance at the Powercat Classic. She also became the first Texan to notch a pair of eagles in the same round. So far this season, she has led the Texans in two of their three tournaments. She set new collegiate 54-hole and 18-hole lows this week at the Powercat Classic. Mortensen carded an even par, 72 for a new low 18-hole mark and a 220 for a new 54-hole low mark.

"Filippa had a very consistent tournament once again this week and deserves the recognition," said head coach Isabel Jimenez. "This is her second Golfer of the Week achievement during the month of September and a great start to her collegiate career. She is only getting started."

The Herlev, Denmark, native, became the first Texan in the D1 era to notch a pair of eagles in the same round. The freshman tallied an eagle on each the 4th and 13th holes in her final round on Tuesday. She is the first Texan to notch multiple in the same round and same tournament. The Denmark native is the first Texan to notch an eagle since Louise Depadt on the final hole of her first round at the NCAA regional last year in Waco. Mortensen was one of two players at the Powercat Classic to record a pair of eagles this week.

The freshman placed seventh overall shooting the most consistent three rounds by a Texan. She started off in the lead of the entire field recording four birdies on her first eight holes of golf. She cooled off at the end of the round to finish at even par and tie for the Texan lead. She then followed up on her second round of the day with a 73 to rank in the top five after the first day of competition. On her final round, she tallied a pair of eagles without any birdies to card a three-over, 75. She ended the tournament with her best collegiate score, a four-over, 220 and posted her best performance in seventh place.

Tarleton State will have two more tournaments in the October to complete their fall slate. The Texans will next be in action on Oct. 12-14 at the Golf Iconic Classic hosted by New Mexico State at Las Cruces, New Mexico. Their fall finale will be at The Clash at Boulder Creek hosted by Northern Arizona on Oct. 25-27.
