STEPHENVILLE, Texas —
Lou Deltombe placed in the top 20 to lead Tarleton State Women's Golf to a sixth-place overall finish at the Texas Golf Throwdown at The Woodlands Country Club hosted by Sam Houston on Monday and Tuesday.
The Texans placed sixth overall in the strong field that featured a pair of nationally-ranked programs, Texas A&M (No. 6) and Iowa State (No. 40). Both the Aggies and the Cyclones were in the Lubbock Regional with the Texans last spring. The Purple and White finished ahead of the only other WAC program, UT Arlington who ended the tournament in seventh overall, two strokes behind the Texans.
After the first round, the Texans were second in the team competition shooting 12-over par. Their single round, 300, was the ninth lowest total single round of the event. They were just six strokes behind the eventual champions, Iowa State in the opening round.
For the fifth time this season and in back-to-back tournaments,
Lou Deltombe finished in the top 20 of the tournament. She carded a pair of 74's, two-over par on her first and third round. On her second round she tallied a 76 to finish at 224, eight over par. Overall, she was the highest placed Texan coming in 16
th.
Louise Depadt started off consistent with a pair of five-over par, 77's on the first day. On the second day, she fired off the best Texan round of the invitational with a one-over, 73. She jumped nine spots on the final day to climb into a tie for 21
st place overall.
Gina Chen tied for 27
th overall carding a 14-over par. Chen opened with a 74 in her first round. She finished with a 77 and 79 to shoot 230.
Natalia Fiel Ros carded an opening round of 75. She finished with an 81 and 80 on her final two rounds to shoot 20 over-par and tie for 40
th place. Rebeca Fenandez placed 70
th shooting 250.
Iowa State's Nichakorn Pinprayoon took home the individual crown as the only player to shoot three under-par rounds. She finished carding a six-under par, 210. The Cyclones also had the runner-up, Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn, who carded a three-under 213. Oral Roberts' Avery Blake shot a one-over, 217, to place third.
Iowa State ran away with the team title as well, winning by nearly 40 strokes. The Cyclones posted a two-under par team score, 39 strokes ahead of the second placed Nebraska Cornhuskers (+37). Cincinnati placed third, two shots behind Nebraska, shooting 39 over par.
The Texans will have two weeks off before heading to Puerto Rico. The Purple and White will compete at the Puerto Rico Shootout in Humacao, PR. The three-day event will begin on March 3 and conclude on Thursday, March 5
th.
