ARLINGTON, Texas – Tarleton State Tennis returns to the road this weekend for a pair of  dual matches, against the UT Arlington Mavericks on Friday at 11 a.m. at the UTA Tennis Center and the UT Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros on Sunday at 5 p.m. at the Austin Tennis Academy.

The Texans enter the weekend looking to build momentum as the spring season continues, with several players contributing key performances in recent matches.

Freshman Aya Ishii was named WAC Singles Player of the Week this week after recording a pair of singles victories in Tarleton State's last match. Ishii has been a consistent contributor for the Texans this season and currently leads the team in both singles and doubles wins.

Tarleton State also earned recognition in doubles, as seniors Emma Persson and Ximena Morales were named WAC Doubles Team of the Week. Both have been a key part of the Texans' doubles lineup and have picked up multiple wins together this spring.

The Texans are coming off a win against Kansas City last Saturday and fell short at Tulsa 4-2 last Sunday. Tarleton State won the doubles point in both matches and combined for four singles wins last weekend. 

UT Arlington enters the weekend with experience across its singles lineup and has competed in several early-season non-conference matches as it continues its spring schedule. The Lady Mavs defeated the Texans in last year's WAC Semifinals to advance to the conference championship. UTA got back in the win column on Tuesday with a 6-1 home win against Butler. 

Tarleton State will then face UTRGV on Sunday. The Vaqueros have also competed in a number of early-season duals. UTRGV, a former member of the WAC, have never beaten the Texans in the previous six matchups.
