Tarleton State Men’s Golf’s Pastor earns second WAC Golfer of the Week honor

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – After winning his second individual title of the season, Tarleton State Men's Golf redshirt freshman Alvaro Pastor earned his second WAC Golfer of the Week award in 2026.

Pastor won the All-American Intercollegiate individual title on Tuesday, obtaining first place by five strokes. The Madrid, Spain, native won the title by beating seven players in Scoreboard's Top 100 rankings. His performance allowed him to jump 109 spots in Scoreboard's player rankings, where he currently is ranked No. 115 this week.

After winning the individual title at the Golden Nugget Invitational earlier this month, Pastor is the first player in program history to capture first place in back-to-back events. Despite difficult and windy conditions impacted by Monday's weather, that did not slow Pastor in the early rounds of the All-American Intercollegiate. He tallied 12 birdies in the first two rounds, including eight in the second round for a 6-under-par 66. He closed the last round with a 1-under-par 71, being the only player in the tournament to finish with an under-par final score.

The honor marks the second weekly/monthly award for Pastor during his time at Tarleton State. Tarleton State has earned WAC Men's Golfer of the Week honors in each of the last four weeks it has competed. Sophomore Luis Buech and freshman Maximilian Bjornstrom previously earned the honor earlier in the spring.

After redshirting last season, Pastor has been one of the top performers for the Texans in 2025-26. In addition to his two titles in 2026, Pastor has recorded four top 10 finishes and cracked the top 20 five times this season.

Pastor wrapped up the fall portion of the season by shooting 6-under-par in the first round and finished at 5-under-par to tie for sixth place at the FAU Invitational. He played a crucial part in helping the Texans clinch their first team title in the event, the Texans' first win in program history. Pastor continued his strong play in his first spring tournament of the year, shooting 1-under-par at the Border Olympics to tie for eighth place.

On the national stage, Pastor represented Spain in the 2025 World Amateur Team Championships. He finished 24th overall with a 3-under-par finish.

Prior to his arrival in Stephenville, Pastor was ranked fifth in Spain's U18 rankings and owned a 760 WAGR Ranking when he signed with the Texans. He won the 2022 RSHEC Men's Individual Championship and the Campeonato Absolute de Castilla Y Leon, also capturing the title of the 2024 Copa Andalucia. Pastor recorded 17 top 10 finishes in tournaments across Spain before signing with the Texans.

Tarleton State returns to action March 30-31, competing at the Memphis Intercollegiate in Cordova, Tennessee.
