RUSTON, La. – Tarleton State Tennis returns to the road this weekend for a match at Louisiana Tech on Friday at 10 a.m. at the LA Tech Tennis Complex.
The Texans enter the weekend looking to build momentum as the spring season continues, with several players contributing key performances in recent matches. As a result, multiple Texans won awards last week.
Sophomore
Maria Castano was named WAC Singles Player of the Week this week after recording a pair of singles victories in Tarleton State's last match. Castano has been a consistent contributor for the Texans this season and has been a big part of this team in both singles and doubles. Tarleton State also earned recognition in doubles, as freshmen
Marissa Minetti and
Aya Ishii were named WAC Doubles Team of the Week. Both have been a key part of the Texans' doubles lineup and have picked up 13 wins together this spring.
The Texans faced Tyler Junior College on Wednesday, picking up their sixth consecutive win as well as their 31st straight point. Ishii and Minetti along with senior
Ximena Morales did not lose a set against TJC. Morales and
Emma Persson picked up a bagel to clinch doubles point for the eighth consecutive time in the match.
The Bulldogs have also competed in a number of early-season duals. The Bulldogs are coming into Friday's match with a win against Texas State last weekend. The Texans have won the last two meetings against LA Tech.
