Tarleton State Men’s Golf’s Pastor earns third WAC Golfer of the Week award

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – For the third time this season, Tarleton State Men's Golf redshirt freshman Alvaro Pastor has been named Western Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week.

His third WAC Golfer of the Week award is the most weekly awards by a Texan in program history. Pastor, who has won two titles this season, shot 4-under-par for a second-place finish at the Tiger Invitational earlier this week.

Tallying 11 birdies, Pastor finished his seventh tournament with an under par performance. His fifth top 10 finish of the season placed him ahead of three golfers ranked in Scoreboard's Top 150 rankings. Pastor is currently No. 124 in the national Scoreboard rankings.

The Tiger Invitational was Pastor's third tournament this season where he finished first or second. His 206 54-hole score marked his second-lowest total score of the season, cracking the top five for lowest 54-hole scores in program history.

Pastor won the individual crown at both the Golden Nugget Invitational and the All-American Intercollegiate. He is the only player in program history to win multiple titles in a single season and the first to capture championships in back-to-back events.

After redshirting last season, Pastor has been one of the top performers for the Texans in 2025-26. In addition to his two titles in 2026, Pastor has recorded five top 10 finishes and cracked the top 20 seven times this season.

Pastor wrapped up the fall portion of the season by shooting 6-under-par in the first round and finished at 5-under-par to tie for sixth place at the FAU Invitational. He played a crucial part in helping the Texans clinch their first team title in the event, the Texans' first win in program history. Pastor continued his strong play in his first spring tournament of the year, shooting 1-under-par at the Border Olympics to tie for eighth place.

On the national stage, Pastor represented Spain in the 2025 World Amateur Team Championships. He finished 24th overall with a 3-under-par finish.

Prior to his arrival in Stephenville, Pastor was ranked fifth in Spain's U18 rankings and owned a 760 WAGR Ranking when he signed with the Texans. He won the 2022 RSHEC Men's Individual Championship and the Campeonato Absolute de Castilla Y Leon, also capturing the title of the 2024 Copa Andalucia. Pastor recorded 17 top 10 finishes in tournaments across Spain before signing with the Texans.

Tarleton State has earned WAC Men's Golfer of the Week five times this season. Sophomore Luis Buech and freshman Maximilian Bjornstrom both previously he honor earlier in 2026.

Tarleton State's next tournament will be the 2026 WAC Championship April 27-29 at The Clubs of Stonebridge Ranch in McKinney, Texas.
