Hines earns back-to-back UAC Offensive Player of the Week honors, De La Poza named Special Teams POW

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton State picked up more conference player of the week recognition on Monday.

The United Athletic Conference announced that Tarleton State running back Tylan Hines has been named UAC Offensive Player of the Week, and Texan kicker Alejandro De La Poza has been named UAC Special Teams Player of the Week. Through three games, Tarleton State Football has already earned five conference player of the week honors.

Hines is the back-to-back UAC Offensive Player of the Week. This week, he rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries (8.3 YPC), and added six receiving yards on two receptions to reach 147 yards from scrimmage in Tarleton State's road win 27-24 at McNeese on Saturday. Hines had the seventh most rush yards in a game across the FCS this weekend, and the second most in the UAC. He was the only UAC running back with multiple rush touchdowns and 140-plus rush yards. Through three games, Hines has three of the FCS' top-20 single-game rushing performances this season. Hines has the most rush yards this season across the FBS and FCS (575) and is averaging the most rush yards per game in the country (191.7 YPG).

De La Poza made the game-winning field goal as time expired to lift Tarleton State to a 27-24 win at McNeese. De La Poza made 2-of-3 field goal attempts, missing his initial attempt from 42 yards out, then back-to-back 24-yard makes, including the game-winner. De La Poza provided Tarleton State's first offensive walk-off win as time expired in just over a calendar year. The last was kicker Brad Larson making a field goal at West Point, New York, to beat Army in double overtime on Aug. 29, 2025. De La Poza's two field goal makes tied a season-high, and he also went 3-for-3 on extra point attempts, now 12-for-12 on the year.

The No. 4 Texans have started 3-0 for the second straight season, their first such stretch since 2018-19. They went a combined 23-2 in those seasons. The Texans are 7-1 over their past eight road games overall.

Other UAC awards announced on Monday were Eastern Kentucky's Cam Jessee named UAC Defensive Player of the Week and Austin Peay's Denver Harper as Freshman of the Week.
