Tarleton State Volleyball opens UAC era with UTA Tuesday at Wisdom Gym

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State will play its first conference match as a member of the United Athletic Conference on Tuesday against UT Arlington at 6 p.m. at Wisdom Gym. 

UTA was a member of the Western Athletic Conference with the Texans and was one of three schools to join the UAC from the WAC. 

Head coach Jazmyne Johnson is undefeated against UTA in her time leading the Texans. The Texans won both matchups against UTA last year. 

Fifth year outside hitter LaNeah Lara posted a career-best 25 kills in the last matchup at UTA, helping the Texans to a 3-2 win on Oct. 30.

FANTASTIC FRESHMAN
  • Tarleton State Volleyball middle blocker Onita Davis has been named United Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday. 
  • Davis is the first freshman to earn a conference weekly honor since 2022. The Colleyville, Texas, native was named to the UNT Invitational All-Tournament Team on Saturday. 
  • Hitting .407 at Texas Tech to start out the week, Davis had 13 kills off 27 attacks. Having 15 kills against Arizona earlier this year, Davis became the second player in the program's DI era to obtain multiple 10+ kill matches against Power 4 Conference opponents. 
  • Davis continued her strong performance in the UNT Invitational, hitting .406 in the Texans' final three non-conference matches. She matched her career-high of 15 kills while hitting .571 against East Texas A&M, leading the Texans to a win. Davis capped off the final non-conference match of the season with .316 hitting against West Virginia. 
  • The impact of Davis has been immediate for the Texans in 2026. Davis is currently second on the team in kills and third in hitting percentage, accumulating double-digit kills three times. She was also named to the Wildcat Classic All-Tournament Team and had the most kills by a freshman against a Power 4 opponent. 
DINH DOMINATING
  • Alyssa Dinh was one of seven players selected for the Preseason All-UAC Team. Dinh's placement on the All-UAC Preseason Team marks the third consecutive year the Texans have had representation on a preseason all-conference team.
  • She has accumulated a .700+ hit percentage in two matches this year (.733 vs. Sam Houston on Sept. 10 and .765 vs. East Texas A&M on Sept. 18). 
  • Her .765 hit percentage on Sept. 18 is tied for the third-best in a match in program history. She now owns two spots in the top five in that category.
  • She closed the season with 86 kills and an attacking percentage of .286. Her 1.51 kills per set made her one of the WAC's most efficient attackers. 
HELLO, UAC
  • Tarleton State University has officially begun full-time membership into the United Athletic Conference (UAC) as of July 1, 2026. 
  • The UAC sponsors 16 sports, which includes Tarleton State in each; baseball, men's basketball, men's cross country, football, men's golf, men's indoor track and field, men's outdoor track and field, women's basketball, women's cross country, women's golf, women's indoor track and field, women's outdoor track and field, women's soccer, softball, women's tennis and volleyball.
  • The UAC is the new version of the rebranded Western Athletic Conference, which is aligned with the ASUN under Unisun Sports. Unisun Sports, announced in May, is a groundbreaking strategic alliance between the UAC and ASUN. Unisun Sports will serve both conferences, designed to significantly enhance operational efficiency, foster deeper collaboration, and drive innovation across both NCAA Division I organizations.
