MANHATTAN, Kan. —
Filippa Mortensen posted her first top 10 finish of the season while becoming the first Texan to notch a pair of eagles in the same round as Tarleton State placed seventh overall at the Powercat Classic.
The Texans ranked in the top four after each of the first two rounds. The Purple and White opened the first round with a 12-over, 300 to be tied for fourth after the end of the first round. In the second round, the Texans improved by five strokes to shoot a 295, seven-over par round and end the first day in third place overall. The Texans carded a 310, 22-over par in the third round to end the tournament in seventh place overall at 41-over par.
"We started the tournament with a great competitive mind set and the scores for round 1 and 2 show," said head coach
Isabel Jimenez. "Unfortunately in our final round, we were not able to compete at that same level. We are going to take back home all the positives and keep on working. Filippa was our most consistent player again this week, she keeps on improving and there is so much more ahead of her. Both Magdalena and Gina are also posting consistent rounds that are helping the team every event."
Mortensen became the first Texan in the D1 era to notch a pair of eagles in the same round. The freshman tallied an eagle on each the 4th and 13th holes in her final round on Tuesday. She is the first Texan to notch multiple in the same round and same tournament. The Denmark native is the first Texan to notch an eagle since
Louise Depadt on the final hole of her first round at the NCAA regional last year in Waco. Mortensen was one of two players at the Powercat Classic to record a pair of eagles this week.
Mortensen placed seventh overall shooting the most consistent three rounds by a Texan. She started off in the lead of the entire field recording four birdies on her first eight holes of golf. She cooled off at the end of the round to finish at even par and tie for the Texan lead. She then followed up on her second round of the day with a 73 to rank in the top five after the first day of competition. On her final round she tallied a pair of eagles without any birdies to card a three-over, 75. She ended the tournament with her best collegiate score, a four-over, 220 and posted her best performance in seventh place.
For the third-straight tournament,
Magda Domine placed in the top 20, this time tying for 10th. Domine started with an even-par 72 to tie for the Texan lead after the first round. She closed with a 76 and 75 in her final two rounds to remain in the top 10 and card a seven-over, 223. Domine led the field shooting two-under par in par three holes. Her nine birdies tied her for ninth in the field with most birdies.
Gina Chen was the third Texan to place in the top 20, finishing in 17th shooting a nine-over, 225. Chen carded the best round by a Texan this season with a 69 on her second round of the day on Monday. In her second round, she notched four birdies while recording just one bogey. Chen's 37 pars ranked in the top 10 in the field.
Luchi Quiroga tied for 50th carding a 22-over par, 238. Quiroga fired a pair of rounds at 79 and 77 before closing the third round at 82.
Yanin Kongthawornwong placed 64th shooting 82, 79 and 81 in her three rounds to end the week at a 26-over, 242.

The former Kansas State Wildcat shot a 71 on her second round, her first under-par round of the year. Fiel Ros tied for 43rd overall carding a 17-over, 233. She posted 38 pars which tied for the fourth most in the field.
Kansas State took home the individual title shooting an even par, 864.
