STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton State freshman
Avery Mendez scored her first collegiate goals on Sunday, and has been recognized by the conference for her special performance.
On Tuesday, the United Athletic Conference named Mendez the UAC Player of the Week from matches played Aug. 31-Sept. 6.
Mendez scored two goals in Tarleton State's 4-4 draw at Houston Christian on Sunday. Tarleton State went 0-0-2 on the week, with a pair of road draws at Incarnate Word (0-0 on Thursday) and at HCU. Mendez is the first Texan with multiple goals in a match this season. She had a 100 percent success rate in scoring, converting both of her shots into goals, playing in 161 minutes of the possible 180 minutes this past week.
This is Tarleton State Soccer's first UAC award of the early season. Also recognized by the conference on Tuesday were Abilene Christian's Baylie Simon (UAC Defensive Player of the Week) and Central Arkansas' Hanna Hargrave (UAC Goalkeeper of the Week).
