Devon Hills began the scoring with a three-pointer with 17:55 on the clock and Tarleton jumped out to a 6-2 lead a few minutes later on
Wale Ogunoye's lay-up. The Texans took a 10-6 lead on
Donta Smith's lay-up with 14:58 left in the first period and then increased their lead to six points, up 14-8, following a free-throw from Wilson.
Bryant hit his first three-pointer of the game with 7:18 left in the first-half to give the Texans a 19-12 lead. A 4-0 run from the Savage Strom pulled SOSU within three points, but
Chris Harrell hit a jumper from beyond the arc on the other end of the court put the Texans back on top by six, 22-16. Tarleton closed out the first-half with a 7-0 run to take a 29-16 advantage into the locker room at the break.
Tarleton opened the second period with a 10-4 run to increase their lead to 39-20, but SOSU scored the game's next six points to pull-back within 13 points. Smith's lay-up with 10:25 remaining in the game put the Texans back on top 45-27, but Tarleton's 18-point lead would dwindle down to just 12 points with 7:42 on the clock following a free-throw from Mychal Horn.
SOSU's Will Robinson hit a three-pointer with less than five minutes remaining and pulled the Savage Storm to within seven points and Tarleton's lead was just 48-41 with 4:58 left to play. That would prove to be as close as SOSU would get as Wilson and Bryant hit consecutive three-pointers to close out the game on a 6-2 run.
The Texans forced 21 SOSU turnovers on the evening, but came away with just nine points compared to the Savage Storm's 14. Tarleton's bench provided the extra effort though, scoring 21 points, while SOSU scored just five.
Smith came away with eight rebounds and scored eight points in the victory, while Hills led the team with four assists on the evening.
The Texans shot .367 percent from the field and managed to hold SOSU to just .349 percent from the floor.
SOSU was led by Horn who finished the game with 19 points. William Slones led both teams on the boards as he grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
Tarleton will return to action next Saturday, Nov. 28 as they host Wylie College.
