Texans to hit road against RiverHawks Saturday

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Tarleton Texan football team will hit the road for the first time this season as the Texans travel to Tahlequah, Okla. for Lone Star Conference crossover match-up with Northeastern State. Kickoff at Doc Wadley Stadium is set for 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5.
The Texans are coming off a 45-16 victory over Arkansas-Monticello in the season opener last Thursday while the RiverHawks were not as fortunate, following to UAM's fellow Gulf South Conference member Arkansas Tech, 44-32.
Tarleton recorded 429 yards of offense in the first game of the season, including 245 yards on the ground and 184 yards passing. 
Roderick Smith, who tied a school record for touchdowns and scoring in a single game, crossed the goal line four times in the win and finished the first two quarters with 11 carries for 80 yards. He did not have a carry in the second half and only played a couple of snaps. Evan Robertson had eight carries for 85 yards for the Texans.
Scott Grantham threw 14 times and completed eight passes for 160 yards and touchdowns to lead the team while Devin Guinn topped the receiving corps with five catches for 104 yards. Lester Hundley had two receptions for 52 yards and two scores.
The Texan defense allowed just 82 yards rushing as well as 235 yards passing for a total of 317 yards. Matt Knicky led the team with nine tackles, all assisted, while Ben Taifane, Marcus Phillips and Nate Stringfellow each had seven total tackles. The Texans recorded nine tackles for a loss of minus-51 yards, including three sacks for minus-31 yards. 
Northeastern State tallied 144 yards on the ground and 232 yards through the air to record 376 yards of total offense. The defense allowed 460 yards of offense, including 354 yards passing and 106 yards rushing.
Woody Wilson led the team with 17 carries for 93 yards while also throwing for 232 yards and two touchdowns. He completed 17 of 33 pass attempts with one interception. Prince McKinney had four catches for 40 yards to lead the squad.
The RiverHawk defense is led by Jon Evans with eight tackles, including four assisted and four solo stops. NSU recorded five tackles for a loss of minus-nine yards with no sacks.
