COMMERCE – The Tarleton Texans will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 9 at 4 p.m. at Texas A&M-Commerce in Commerce.
Tarleton enters the game 11-2 after defeating Paul Quinn on Monday 77-31. The Texans have won six straight contests with this game being the final Lone Star Conference Crossover contests of the season.
Tarleton is led by Corin Henry with 12.3 points per game. He also leads the squad with 30 steals and 61 assists. Jeremiah Wilson is second with 11.2 points per game, but he tops the team with 9.5 rebounds per outing. Devon Hills is third in scoring with 10.7 points per contest. Donta Smith is second in rebounding with 6.7 boards per game. Wilson has five double-doubles this season, including four in a row from Dec. 19-Jan. 2.
Tarleton is averaging .433 from the floor, .389 from the arc and .651 from the charity stripe while opponents are shooting .355 from the field, .317 from the arc and .634 from the line. Tarleton is outscoring opponents 71.2 to 54.5 and outrebounding them 39.9 to 33.5.
TAMUC is 11-3 coming into the game Saturday after losing to Midwestern State on Thursday, 90-86. The Lions, who are 4-1 at home this year, trailed by 14 with 4:10 left remaining in the game before they scored 12 of the next 14 points to cut the lead to four with 42 seconds left.
This season, the Lions are led by Brian Singleton and Ronnie Morgan with 13.9 points per game apiece. Morgan leads the squad with 6.8 rebounds per game while Justin Wilkerson is second with 5.0 boards per contest. Also averaging in double figures is 12.1 points per outing.
TAMUC is averaging .486 from the floor, .406 from the three-point arc and .733 from the line while opponents are shooting .419 from the field, .336 from the arc and .679 from the stripe. The Lions are outscoring opponents 76.6 to 69.4 and are outrebounding them 36.1 to 31.8.
The two teams 49 times since 1962, and the Lions lead the all-time series 28-21. The Lions have won the last two meetings with an 85-67 win on Nov. 25, 2008 and 72-52 on Dec. 6, 2007. The last Texans' victory was on Jan. 4, 2007, 104-91.
