TexAnns send seniors off in style with 3-1 victory over Eastern New Mexico

STEPHENVILLE – The Tarleton volleyball squad rebounded from a tough loss on Thursday to West Texas A&M with a 3-1 win over the Zias.

The pregame ceremonies before the match honored seniors Margaret Luedecke, Catherine Cutbirth, Rachel Wolf and Shea McBrearty, who played their last match in Wisdom Gym.

The festivites allowed Eastern New Mexico to jump on the TexAnns early by taking the first game 25-19. However, Tarleton responded by winning the next three sets 25-22, 25-19, 25-23, and claiming the victory.

Irelis Ilarraza led the offense once again with 16 kills, while Monica Hamel added 10 kills and Rachel Wolf added nine kills. Jessie Hartman and Danielle Barker shared assist duties, recording 24 and 10 respectively.

Shea McBrearty showed why she is the TexAnns' all-time career dig leader by adding 16 more to her total. Wolf also contributed 13 digs of her own, to go along with four blocks, while Monica Hamel added five block assists.

Tarleton as a team hit a .153 percentage, but still managed to pull out the win, pushing their record to 21-8 on the year and 7-5 in the conference.

The Zias fall to 12-14 and 4-8 in the conference, but recorded a .203 attack percentage as a team.

Kristen Beck led Eastern New Mexico with 16 kills, with Jessica King contributing 10 more. Veronica Valdez-Kent collected 38 of the team's 45 assists, while Dallas Russell and Amber Durand recorded 17 and 12 digs respectively.

The TexAnns will next head to Midwestern State Thursday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. before wrapping up the season Saturday, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. against Cameron.
