Tarleton women's basketball travels to Southwestern Oklahoma Tuesday

WEATHERFORD, OKLA. – The TexAnns will face the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. in Weatherford, Okla.

Tarleton enters the game 5-1, coming off a 45-point victory over East Central Saturday. The TexAnns have won their only road game of the season so far when they defeated Cameron in Lawton, Okla. Nov. 27.

Shelby Adamson has led the TexAnns through the first six games, averaging 19 points per game, while Morgan Stehling has added 14.7 points per game.

Kiara Wright and Kelsey Benford have dominated the glass for Tarleton, grabbing 7.8 and 6.6 boards per game respectively. Benford also has nine blocks on the season.

Adamson is averaging three steals per game to lead the defense, while Sonya Sundberg has recorded 10 steals on the year.

As a team, Tarleton is shooting 42.4 percent from the floor, 32.3 percent from behind the arc, and 70.7 percent from the charity stripe. The TexAnns are averaging 72.7 points per game, while allowing just 56 points per game to opponents. A vital component to Tarleton's success this year has been their +7.2 turnover margin and their 9.7 steals per game.

Southwestern Oklahoma will be just the TexAnns' second road test so far in the 2010-11 campaign, and the Bulldogs will be ready to defend their home court. They are 6-0 on the season, and 4-0 in Rankin Williams Fieldhouse. Wins at Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M, highlight Southwestern Oklahoma's early-season success.

Tarleton will have to try and stop Sumiya Darden, who's averaging 14.5 points per game and 8.7 rebounds per game, and Natasha Brown, who's averaging 11.2 points per game and 2.5 assists per game. Southwestern Oklahoma is shooting a 45.7 percentage from the field, with a 36.8 three-point mark and a 70.3 free throw percentage.

The Bulldogs are scoring 74.7 points a game as a team, but are also giving up 62.7 points to opponents.

Tarleton trails Southwestern Oklahoma in the all-time series 9-13, with the TexAnns winning their last meeting 81-56 in Stephenville on Dec. 19, 2009.
