Tarleton State Women’s Basketball challenges top-seeded CBU in WAC Semifinal Friday

LAS VEGAS – After upsetting No. 4 seed Utah Valley in the WAC Quarterfinals, Tarleton State Women's Basketball will go up against the No. 1 seed and regular season champion, CBU, on Friday at 2 p.m. central time at Orleans Arena in the semifinals of the WAC Tournament. 

The Texans ended Thursday's WAC Quarterfinal on a 7-0 scoring run in the last minute and a half to upset No. 4 seed Utah Valley 60-57. Senior guard Kyriana Jones made the game-winning 3-pointer with 31 seconds left. Freshman center Elodie Lutbert added two clutch free throws late en route to 15 points and 11 rebounds, her ninth double-double of the season. Lutbert also blocked five shots, needing just one more to break the program's all-time single season record for blocks.

LAST TIME OUT
  • Tarleton State Women's Basketball, the No. 5 seed, went on a 7-0 scoring run in the last minute and a half to upset No. 4 seed Utah Valley 60-57 on Thursday at Orleans Arena. The Texans will make their second straight appearance in the WAC Semifinals.
  • Lutbert recorded her ninth double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. She is the first freshman since 1985-86 to have nine double-doubles in a season (Kelly Hubbard, 13). 
  • Lutbert also recorded her third five-block game of the season. She needs one more block to break the program's all-time single season blocks record. 
  • Jones hit the game-winning 3-pointer with 31 seconds left in regulation. It was her only 3-point attempt of the game. 
  • Senior guard Jakoriah Long had her eighth straight game in double figures on Thursday, scoring 11 points. Long was named to the All-WAC Second Team earlier this week.
MEANWHILE IN VEGAS
  • When it comes to opening the WAC Tournament in Las Vegas, the Texans start strong. 
  • Tarleton State is 3-0 in opening games at the WAC Tournament in Las Vegas all-time. They picked up their third win in the WAC Quarterfinals on Thursday against Utah Valley (3/12).
  • Down by seven at halftime and by six points in the fourth quarter, the Texans won their fourth game of the season when trailing at halftime. It is the Texans' second straight come-from-behind win. 
  • The Texans were down by as many as 11 points in the WAC Quarterfinal. It is the fourth time this season the Texans picked up a win after they were down through the first 20. 
  • The victory marks their second straight WAC Semifinal. The Texans advanced to their first conference tournament semifinal since the 2018-19 season last year.
  • The Texans picked up its 20th win of the season in last year's WAC Quarterfinal, capturing its first 20-win season in the Division I Era. It was the first time the Texans have won 20 games since the 2019-20 season.
COMEBACK KIDS
  • No deficit is too big for Tarleton State Women's Basketball in 2025-26. The Texans have completed four comebacks when they have trailed at halftime, including back-to-back games in March. 
  • Down by seven at halftime and six entering the fourth quarter, the Texans won their fourth game of the season when trailing at halftime. They trailed by as many as 11 points. 
  • Down by 18 points, Tarleton State Women's Basketball completed the largest comeback in the Division I era and defeated Southern Utah 59-57 on Feb. 7. The comeback marks the largest come-from-behind effort in 20+ years.
FANTASTIC FRESHMAN
  • Lutbert is having one of the best seasons by a first-year college player since the Texans moved to Division I. 
  • Lutbert was named to the All-WAC Defensive Team and the All-WAC Freshman Team. She is the first freshman since 2012-13 to be named to the All-WAC Defensive Team (Riana Byrd, San Jose State). 
  • The 6-foot-6-inch center broke the Division I era single season program record for rebounds with her 214th board at UTA (3/5). 
  • Lutbert recorded her ninth double-double of the season in the WAC Quarterfinals with 15 points and 11 rebounds. She is the first freshman in the Division I era and the first since 1985-86 to have nine double-doubles in a single season (Kelly Hubbard, 13). 
  • She scored a season-high 18 points against ACU (2/14). 
  • Lutbert was named WAC Newcomer of the Week on Feb. 9, 2026 after nearly averaging a double-double. 
  • Lutbert matched the D1 era program record for most rebounds in a game with 16 against UTA (1/21). 
  • Lutbert had three straight double-doubles between Nov. 25-Dec.7. She is the first Tarleton State freshman since 1985-86 to have three straight games with a double-double (Kelly Hubbard, Nov. 12-20). 
  • Lutbert has also blocked five shots multiple times this season. She is the first Tarleton State freshman since 2005 to have five blocks in a game (TaNesiah Leak). 
  • She is currently second all-time on the program's single season blocks list. Lutbert needs just six more blocks to break the program record. 
  • Lutbert signed with Tarleton State in August.
